As someone who is a member of, and visits plenty of other audiophile forums, I have to say that every time I come back to ASR it is a blessed relief.

I’m talking about in terms of the design, functionality and user interface.

I am continually aghast at how awful and dated most other audiophile forms are: useless or poorly implemented search features, awful layout, no “ remembering where you last left off viewing the thread,” poor or nonexistent editing functions, difficulty including images or media, and just visual nightmares to interact with. And so many of them are not up-to-date in providing a proper UI for responsive design for smart phones, etc.

I mean, a place like Canuck Audio Mart is virtually unreadable on a smart phone.

Even the AVSForum, of which I’ve been a long time member, is a psychedelic nightmare to navigate with the adds.

And don’t get me started on the Stone Age interface of Audiogon or Audio Asylum!

I know some other forums use the same format, but I’m just glad Amir actually picked a 21st century format for ASR.

Thanks Amir!

I didn't realise until recently that there are a few options for the forum's visual style (scroll to the bottom of the page to switch).

I probably wouldn't have chosen this "forum style" colour scheme, however, it is distinctive, and over time I've grown to really like it.

"XF2 Default Dark" is good for night time reading.

Thanks for the forum style info. After four years I've now just discovered it. I really like the default setting but I can see that the default dark will be useful as I read the forum nearly every day and often at night.

I haven’t checked out any night modes yet, but I find night modes drive my eyes nuts.

Bright lettering on a dark or black background burn into my retina, and when I even look away from the screen I’m still seeing the lettering.

night modes drive my eyes nuts too. the only thing worse is grey lettering on white background, which is inexplicably widespread

Thanks for the night mode hint. Works nicely.

For some reason I find this hilarious ... it's right up there with Boaty McBoatface ...
Sorry for my being slow, but…

The Boaty McBoatface thing is a hoot… but what’s the connection?

I need to be in on this joke!

Edit: OK, I think perhaps the fog has lifted.
You get a kick out of the name of the forum!
I’m so used to it I didn’t even think about it.

Well here in the US "canuck" can have a derogatory meaning: not just Canadian but "dumb Canadian", and yes I heard the word used this way in my youth, and so a bunch of canucks not being able to get their forum to be readable on a "smart" phone ... well it made me laugh! (I did have to think that through to figure out why. But I still don't know why Boaty McBoatface cracks me up as much as it does ...)

Agree, same for me... whenever I mention it, people seem to think I'm nuts or something, so glad to see your post. When I look away I can see lines... the Archimago's Musings site does it to me as well, which is some type of light brown on dark brown.

If you are in a dark room you can reduce the screen brightness to the minimum level which should reduce this effect (the blue light filter helps too). Otherwise, and if not using night mode, it is like shining a torch into your face!

Yeah, I know and already do that (being a video enthusiast)... doesn't help much though when it's white on black text, still happens but not as bad. Whereas all is fine with black on white text.

Im with the dark mode from the day1 of registration.
The forum style is perfect - enhanced classical design with all of functionalities needed and w/o any unnecessary waste of screen space .

I'm all for praising the forum UX, generally speaking, but as far as @amirm's influence goes, we can only praise him on making the decision to go with XenForo and configuring it in this way ;). Most of the hard work was actually done by XenForo Ltd.

For me also Dark Mode all the way :)
