Post pictures of anything, with comment...couple words.

In France we use "Ulys Télépéage" if the road is a toll highway, it means automatically charged to your bank account.
"electronic toll payment by Ulys" is a small box installed next to the mirror in your vehicle allowing you to pay for your motorway journeys in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy and even your parking lots in France ! The first 5 months are free...
The cost is 2 euros each month you use it : Ulys
Using Ulys you cross the toll without stopping...

If you don't use Ulys you have to pay with a credit card or cash.

"The cost is 2 euros each month you use it " Oh, it is really cheap, quite envy for that!

Traffic toll in Japan is much more expensive, and I found the same in Swiss when I drove there.

In Japan, we have small radio-wave detector inside the front glass connected to small iPhone-size ETC Card Unit under the dashboard having "ETC Card" linked and provided by our "credit card company" for automatic toll collection.

This means, some small number of people who do not (or unable to) have credit cards cannot use the ETC system, and they should stop at the toll gate to collect traffic card then they need to stop again at the toll gate of highway exit for payments by cash or credit card (who have credit cards but do not have ETC Unit). Sometimes, the manual (by toll gate employees) toll gate process causes heavy traffic jam, as you may easily assume...

Now I believe non-ETC cars are less than 1% of the total traffic, though...

2€month is the subscription fee of the service. The toll for the highway is much more expensive of course.
In Switzerland you pay a toll premium per year, or maybe they have something cheaper for temp use.

Strange that you need a radio detector in Japan.
Some more "advanced" countries take a shot of your licence plate and bill you directly ...

Mougins is the village where Pablo Picasso lived, died and where he is buried.

Thank you for your kind update which I understood well.
Yes, in Japan, we still (and forever) need radio detector and ETC Card/Credit Card.
For the company cars, they need corporate ETC Card/Credit Card.

As for "take a shot of your licence plate and bill you directly", I experienced this when I was working at UC San Diego in CA, USA, 2015 - 2018. In the USA, almost all of the highways are free, but some new routes are toll including some new very nice routes from San Diego to LA and Santa Monica, and they took a shot of my car and billed me a few months or half-a-year later...

I understand that ETC System in Japan is designed to quickly bill to the "driver" and not to the "car". In case of having a rent-a-car in Japan, I can put one of my ETC Cards into the ETC unit of the car for direct charge to my credit card soon afterward. So, we (and the rent-a-car company) should most carefully check that we should not leave our ETC card in the car when we return the car...:)

If I lost or left my ETC card in other cars, I need to call my credit card campany to quickly invalidate the ETC card, othertwise....o_O

The Devil's bridge 1km from Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, Fr
It was built between 1028 and 1031, by the two close abbeys of Aniane and Gellone, who jealously controlled both banks of the river. Considered one of the oldest medieval bridges in France.
How did they build that bridge almost 1000 years ago 80m / 262ft above the river ... and crossed by many trucks and cars today ...

The oldest bridge in France is "Le Pont du Gard" built between the years 30 and 40. Clic on image...
These 2 bridges have been classified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO

Thought I’d share… I got my first photo book out last week! A photo essay I worked in my early photography years when I was an aspiring young artist - Fragments of Chad.

All the indoor living of 2020 made me look back at my early creative work. The first of many…
