you carry telephoto lenses while walking your dogs? awesome!
I am not a bird expert, but typical raptors don't approach you within 20m unless they are interested in you or your dogs.
so, I image you need at least 400mm lenses and a fast-focus camera.

I was carrying my Tele zoom lens. A 100-500 mm and a Canon R5. The picture is shot at 500mm and the raptor was pretty far away. I was amazed myself how sharp the image is. To be honest, the animal eye detection made it a lot easier to make this shot.

These are the hardest shots I think. I shoot alot of BIF with the swallows that return to my houses I have for them. It's a very hard game indeed & I'm not very successful. maybe .5 % keeper if that. They are fast & hard to trac.

You're right. These are the hardest shots. But shooting swallows is even a higher level. 5% keepers is quite a respectable number. They are really fast. Much faster than a buzzard.
