In Australia, the most erudite and always lovely meteorologist (this is science) Jane Bunn hosts a pictures thing on her Facebook wall from around Australia. Always a pleasure. This is not a promotion - there is nothing in it on a commercial basis. Just for fun.
I feel so tempted to copy some gentle pics here, but I am not sure of the intellectual property issues. Being on facebook, it is in the public domain, I think?
The human brain and visual cortex perform white balance adjustment because we evolved from creatures that needed to spot predators in different light and shade. Now it serves to endlessly entertain people trying to determine the color of a striped dress. It's not worth reinventing the allegory of the cave overMakes me wonder how we can be sure about reality and the physical world at all.
It's a great picture indeed. Do we see red because it's CocaCola and we expect it to be red, or is there some other mechanism at play? Does the form of the lines induce a sense of color?
It's a sweeping panorama taken on a phone that doesn't have a great algorithm to deal with motion, these people presumably moved while the photographer was sweeping, you can also see it changed exposure around 40% through.I’m more concerned about his arms, and the woman to his left has no mouth.
