Bush pilots have amazing abilities that way. Our realtor flew customers to Alaska on the side and took us to see our current house by his plane. When he landed on water, I thought it would be impossible to rotate the plane in that spot without hitting the pilings and he did that with his eyes closed! Even in a boat I would have had problems let alone with a float plane with wings going all out and with propulsion being the props.

Here is where we took off (Lake Washington) and funny cut out truck they used to push planes onto water:

My son and I dodged thunder clouds in an Otter float plane with a canoe strapped to the struts. Plane flies a little sideways that way. Landed on a lake near the Hudson Bay watershed in Northern Canada, plunked our packs into the canoe and watched the plane disappear. Picked up about two weeks later a few hundred miles away.

Yeh these guys like the older planes due to track record of reliability.

Funny story. I asked the pilot if he had ever lost the plane at the dock and he said "yes, it got loose and I had to swim to go and get it!" Imagine your only transport to remote area of Alaska come loose and float away from you!

These guys and there planes are truly lifelines. We went from nowhere to even more nowhere by canoe and just assumed we would all meet up at the agreed time and place.
