Possible solution for DTS/Dolby/Atmos+eARC+HDCP to AES/EBU - via Dante? (for Okto DAC8PRO etc)

I looked into getting a GPU dock to use with a micro-PC. It's possible, but it seemed like a difficult, complex and expensive way of avoiding a cheap, simple, desktop PC.

That why i use an HTPC for my System and the RPI5 and PCI X1 Card extension bought only for testing purpose for People that wan't an smal solution ;) if this will work like it should.

I am fine with my HTPC box ;)

I wonder if I can save my ears, my dogs ears and speakers from the format switch (atmos <--> pcm) blips that happen from the nuprime H16 by routing through the RME card and tweaking some stuff?

Good question, but i gues if its in the digital Stream you will get it thrue the RME Card. If an Bit flips (MSB for example) :(

Probably an bad designed device i would say with some Bugs still there.

That why i didn't buy it and wait ;)

I am also looking for an Suroundprocessor in the Future may be earlier next Year ;)

Has anyone used these over typical AES snakes? Seems cheaper than snakes, specially if you want to deal with the annoying IO on the same DB25. Essentially to connect 3 devices with each 2x DB25 - I would have 6 of these with cheap cat6 cables vs 6 DB25 snakes.

Sure. I do most of my interconnections that way.

I am thinkink right now to use 4 Mics at once with REW for 7.1 Measurments in the Room and using 4x XLR Cable is a bit much so i guess i need something to Adapt from 4x XLR to one RJ45 Cable would Help a lot for that Process.

4x MIC --> 4x XLR to RJ45 Adapter in a 3D Printed Holder--> RJ45 (10m) --> RJ45 to 4x XLR Adapter --> Audiointerface

Or anything like this.

Would make the Roommeasurments faster around my Head Position.

Could made one measurement at one Spot with direct avaraging all 4 curves into one curve for automaticaly Compensation in REW

Or Subwoofer Measurments with matematicaly removing the Roomacustic (need to test it at least with 2 Mic's at once, also need to buy an license for REW)

I have one Beyerdynamic MM1 (old Version) not sure to buy 4 new MM1 or going for

Sonarworks SoundID Reference Mic (85€) to save some Money

The SoundID mic seemed best value option to me here in the US due to all the other reasonable options with two or more calibration angles having disappeared.

However iirc in Europe there were still sellers including that with more mainstream mic's at decent pricing.

Finally got my RME HDSPe AES card, and installed it in a Sonnet TB5 SE 1 (~$400) enclosure. Struggled to get it working due to an older firmware on the RME card. Had to use a windows machine to update since macos didn't allow the update tool to even start till the driver was installed and driver install failed due to old firmware. Chicken/egg problem. Anyways, after upgrading the firmware on a windows machine, macos now recognizes the RME card just fine.

And now since macos natively decodes atmos from apple music and apple tv apps and routes it through the RME discrete channels, it eliminates the need of an HDMI decoder device. So this eliminates the need of my H16-AES as long as I am using my mac, which is my majority use case. No dump earc handshake issues.

For apple tv 4k / 4k movie streaming have to revert back to the H16, and will either have to manually switch the DB25s from one device to another or find some switch like solution or go the route of the daisy chain discussed in the prior posts.

Side note: was trying to ask for help on RME forum but that forum blocks gmail accounts to signup with no instructions how to contact support for the forum, dumb and annoying, sigh. Instead Google gemini walked me through the steps to get everything working, including the one below.

Had one more issue where atmos music on apple music wont start but regular stereo worked. Had to

Clear Apple Music Playback Caches
A failed Atmos stream often locks the playback buffer, preventing subsequent attempts from starting:
  1. Quit the Music app completely.
  2. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and go to:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Music/
  3. Delete the folders named SubscriptionPlayCache and fsCachedData.

I am not an MAC user so can't help here :(

To my Post above there is another option for multi Mic Measuring at once included an REW Pro License:

https://www.soundimports.eu/de/mini...vGBjRraYBG0qbjW_iJuqXdvvv0SbtTzhoCPpkQAvD_BwE

But also not cheep and the Micaray looks a bit flimsy not sure how that will survive a longer Time LOOOL without an safety Case, has also Calibrationfiles for each MEMS Mic.

But you get 4 Mics for Left Channel and 4 Mics for Right Chanel (Placed at one Spot, Headposition) and you could do one measure for left Box and one for Right at Headposition avarage 4 Mics to one curve add Roomcalibration automaticaly and thats it, or 8 Mics at once for each Surround Speaker.

So youre Swetspot get a bit bigger on youre listening chair.

Finally got my RME HDSPe AES card,
I got one of those as well, with the view to using it with an Arvus H2-4D or H16-AES, plus a windows desktop PC (to make life easier).
Hopefully I won't have to do so much remarkable trouble shooting.
Would you be able to run all your sources into a TV with eARC, or into your Nuprime?

I have been using eARC thus far. PC/Mac to LG tv to H16.

But eliminating the HDMI route all together seems better to me. Saving grace here is macos's coreaudio which can natively decode atmos.

H16 while stable-ish since last firmware still causes a power off coupled with macs own HDMI handshake issues. Or maybe because I am using a MacBook and not mac mini.

But also the pops I hear due to bitstream vs pcm format switch caused by H16 are not there anymore since macos handles that seamlessly. So QoL is better just with the Mac.

I very much like the idea of avoiding HDMI for audio. It's what this whole thread is all about IMHO.

What Atmos audio format is your Mac decoding - is it Dolby Digital Plus?

I presume you need the H16 for blu-rays?

Yes for audiophile gear +1 get away from HDMI as early as possible if it can't be avoided completely

No discs for me :)

I will use it mostly now when I want to connect it to Apple tv box. Most streaming services cap 1080p on browsers so if I want to watch a movie in its full non-blu-ray glory, stuck with H16

Seems there is a v2 of

This new SW42DA-V2 brings additional benefits over the original SW42DA:
- Increased internal memory to account for recent updates from Audinate for the DEP (Dante Embedded Platform), resulting in better performance for larger Dante ecosystems.
- New 4K HDMI chipsets resulting in fast source switching times.
