Possible solution for DTS/Dolby/Atmos+eARC+HDCP to AES/EBU - via Dante? (for Okto DAC8PRO etc)

Noob here, but my opinion from extensive reading.

HDMI sucks for audio, extract it ASAP and use well established standard transports.

I2S is only suitable between boards within a single enclosure over short distances, as in a few cm.

For cost effectiveness, ADAT at 8ch can't be beat, but AES3 over CAT LAN cabling is good also

skip XLR, use DB-25 to RJ45 / AES-72 for patch blocks, snakes

breakout cable matching RJ45-to-XLR or RJ45-to-DB25 adapter at the other end.

Proprietary AoIP gets expensive fast, with IT skillz stick to AES67, but IMO for recreational home systems above is just as good but MUCH easier.

A low powered PC or evenbRPi for routing and DSP. Besides RPi doing AES67, also have a look at the DSPi project here for ADAT and AES3.

USB for output from hosts, either a primary interface with the I/O format you want, or e.g. RME Digiface USB gives 4x inputs & outputs so 32ch total via ADAT connections to format converters in 8ch blocks.

Anything doing DA or AD should be BNC WC clocked, all DDC interfaces ideally as well.

Legacy secondhand gear can get down to $15-25 per channel.

These 8ch AD/DA converter boxen and primary interfaces are much more practical than one-way 2ch DACs, not least wrt clock sync'ing, phase drift smearing is a real issue especially full range, less so for subs LF
 
In my Chain no external Clocks needed or make anything better, i talked to RME and they told me thats don't do anything for me and is useless!!!

HDMI to AES (Processor or Extractor) --> RME HDSPe AES, 8x AES Out (up to 50dB Jita surpressoin) -->8x SMSL SU-2 AES in, XLR Out --> Relais Based Volumecontrol XLR in and Out --> HYPEX AMP's XLR in

I measured 3 DAC's at once and no drifts was showing with an scope after 30minutes of playing 1 kHz into it.

Also DAC's are synced because they get the Clock from RME Card thrue AES!

What splitter did you get? I tired an orei yesterday and it did not work, constant handshake issues with my mac

I also need to try an anti CEC adapter since that is also cause of issues of constant tv turning off

HX16-AES will be also an new Device and will play more than 48kHz on AES Out but comes out not realy soon, may be mid next year i guess.

The HX16-AVP will cost around 5k and will have Analogue in and Outs as well so not something i interested in and i hope the Price for the AES only version will be cheeper

So for me there is an Race between Hyperion DPR-16 (4 HDMI in) and NuprimeX HX16-AES (6 HDMI in)!

The Nuprime H16-AES was already outdated on lounch for me, because 48kHz only Device!!! For people that don't wannt more than 48kHz it is probably still the cheepest option for now.

Nuprime-Jason previously said the HX-16 will only decode Atmos at 48kHz, but indicated that it would "Allow for external hi-res stereo and multi-channel inputs"

Ok i am Confused now and did an Question on that Forum, we will see! What he will answer.

He told anywhere in that Forum that the H16-AES was fixed to 48kHz on AES Out's, but that the HX16 Series will not and will become more expensive if i remember me right!!!

While there is some Atmos master material in existence at 24/96 there is currently no distribution channel that can deliver it, theoretically the DCP specification for cinema delivery supports it but in the real world there are enough issues with stuff not playing correctly that no one bothers.

If there was a mechanism to deliver AVR manufacturers might support it but they aren’t going to bother otherwise.

Nice, you can do what ever you wan't but i experiences already hires for long Time at 96kHz and it is possible to do so.

An AVR is capabel to play that and SACD digital to his internal DAC with high Samplerates not only at 48khz that was also possible at my Onkyo 5007 thru HDMI longer Time ago.

But not at Digital Out and thats because off Copy Protection Stuff and so on, The Industrie don't wan't to give it to you.

So i could throw all my Hires Media away and thats it LOOOOL

It's easey i skip ATMOS at all use my HDMI to 4xAES Extractor or buy me an Vanity Pro and can play all Audio hires like it should, Have only 7.2 Speaker Setup so anyway..... and i am already in haven LOOOOL

I am also able to add an cheep Nuprime H16-AES (1300€) only for Movies (ATMOS 48kHz) to an second bunch off 4 AES in on HDSPe Card (8 AES in's at all) build up 2 different Setups for CamilaDSP to switch between that 2 Bunch of AES ins and thats it LOOOL (with 2 HDSPe Cards even full 16 Channel in possible but useless for my Speaker 7.2 Setup)

Both of my Bluerays have 2 HDMI outs so all possible ;) Also with an HDMI Switcher thats had 2 HDMI out possible to do so.

But H16-AES has still bugs makes pop's and noises like i read so i stay away for now, ATMOS i don't realy need often.

But in the future we get more and more Devices that's Capabel to do so and the Prices will go down.

Its already so cheep, in comparence to earlier days, to get an Softwarebased DSP with DAC's for up to 16 Channels or more with 192kHz
and the bigest Problem still are the Source Device that wan't give you the nativ multichannel digital Stream for all Channels and the Industrie wan'ts to sell the Hires Media ..........LOOOL

But an cheep DIY build HDMI to AES Extractor for 300 bugs do the job for now ..........but without native ATMOS Rendering. Probably not that bad Stil able to view my ATMOS Movies converted to LPCM.....

May be i am already Satisfied with my Extractor without buying anything else LOOOL....let see .....still Moving my Household to my new Apartment.....

So the Project willl need some Time......All parts bought......and don't forget it's an Hobby for me and i am not an normal Endconsumer for shure ;)

Sure it's youre opinion and don't help people thats on an different Route. I realy like that "48Hz" ;)

It's an Hobby and Hobby's cost money loool

I could drive with an VW Polo to get from A to B but if i like to pay for an Ferrari to do the same route ......it's my choice!

Specialy on Americas Street with limited max. Speed ;)

If i would be satisfied with 48kHz i could use an normal AVR for 2k with passive Speaker and thats it ....saving a lot off Money loooooooool

But where is the Hobbyfun than ......the experiences...... the developement on the System ......

Why people pay for an Turntable 10k or more knowing they have only 60 to 70dB Dynamic a lot off extra noises and wand to tell you its the Best way to listen Music lool

I am holding all my efforts to see if the people of music assistant sort out wireless multichannel. As of now, they claim to have better latency than wisa for stereo.

4k for an pair ........ and not my cup off tea ;) The shape looks very good by the way only round eges ;)

It seems to build for only Stereo, would be nice if it had an Dante input, LOOL on the Eathernet connection or ASE

I wish i could make an own Mould for an concrete or composite low resonance Material to build my own Skeaker with no edges around, but not with an coaxial Driver!

I have build my Speaker by my self as long i could think ;)
Never bought an pair from an shop ready to play LOOOOL (Hobbytime)

While there's plenty of evidence that standard resolution audio is transparent, there's also plenty of evidence that it is not ( but that's probably beyond the scope of this thread ).
