I'm struggling to make work any otg adapter to use my external portable dac with a phone with micro usb. This said I'm considering to use a bluetooth portable dac but my concern is about sound quality, if I'm wrong what I could buy in the 100 euro range?

The Fosi DS2 is a fully transparent USB portable DAC and will work with your Micro USB phone as well as any other:

Well i'm really trying to make it work but can't find a cable or adapter to plug it into the micro usb phone, that's why i'm thinking about a Bluetooth one

Ah, I see your post edit, it didn't say Bluetooth before.

If you're looking for a Bluetooth DAC, then the Qudelix 5K is the best option.

It's got far and away the most mature and developed companion App, chock full of useful features.

but can't find a cable or adapter to plug it into the micro usb phone,
Do you have one like this?

You should be able to find any USB cable/adapter you want. I've got a little "kit" of adapters in my laptop bag and a ship-load of different cables. I've also labeled most of my cables and devices so I don't need a magnifying glass to see if it's mini, micro, or C.

It's "Interesting" how non-standard USB has become but it seems like USB-C is the emerging standard and I believe the EU has regulations "mandating" it (maybe only for chargers). But by the time all of the other variations are gone we'll probably have something else replacing USB. :D

Just to confirm: are you sure your phone is able to send audio output over the USB connection in a compatible manner? And does it work with just a simple micro-USB to 3.5mm audio dongle?

In a way.. because when I try a cheap otg adapter, it works but music keeps stopping time by time. To double check what should i do to test it?

So IF i wanted to replace the fosi with a bluetooth dac which are my options please?

OMG... my bad sorry . thank you so much Static

Is this device at least as good as a TOPPING D10B (or a D10S for 2V RMS unbalanced output) for use cases when I am working at my desk from my laptop / phone?

According to their spec sheet, it provides 2.5mm Balanced 4.0V RMS. In which case:
  • When I am at my home desk, I use a 2.5mm <> XLR cable to connect into my balanced stereo mixer, driven at full 4V balanced line level (instead of using a D10B)
  • When I want to be mobile on headphones (whether around the house or traveling), I just unplug the 2.5mm balanced cable and plug in my headphones (3.5mm cable)

I tried exactly that one and didn't work
This isn't an OTG cable, but a regular one.

And there's no USB-C standard, just a connector.

Could you clarify this?

A quick Goggle search brought me to a document "Universal Serial BusType-C Cable and Connector Specification" that defines the standard for USB-C -- i.e., cables that are used for USB communication with Type-C connectors.

From the Definitions section of the document:
  • Type-C Plug: A USB plug conforming to the mechanical and electricalrequirements in this specification.
  • Type-C Port: The USB port associated to a USB Type-C receptacle. This includesthe USB signaling, CC logic, multiplexers and other associated logic.
  • Type-C Receptacle: A USB receptacle conforming to the mechanical and electricalrequirements of this specification.

Now, a different question is which specific USB version is being used; but they are all still USB.

This isn't an OTG cable, but a regular one.
Thanks for that clarification.

I wasn't familiar with OTG cables. Today I learned that the USB On-The-Go (USB-OTG) standard adds a fifth pin on the USB mini / micro plug, which gives the ability for the smart phone to change its role between being a device (i.e., when connected to a PC) or being the host (i.e., when attaching a device such as SSD drive or DAC).

The only thing I would point out, though - is the 2.5mm balanced output.
I just say this as I'm also looking for a Portable (autonomous) Bluetooth DAC/AMP - albeit just to listen to the TV - So I'm OK with 3.5 anyway.

Still, I thank you for that recomendation.

I don't follow. What are you pointing out?

The 5K has both 3.5mm and 2.5mm
