I think you still have to take something like this with a grain of salt and look for yourself at the criteria used—and whether those criteria are important to you personally.

I have visited 5 of the six countries ahead of the UK (not Norway) and whilst I would not rank Switzerland first, for my preferences, I do appreciate the others and could live in any of them if I couldn't be here in the UK with Denmark my favourite.

If I was wealthy and could live anywhere would probably be the USA. Spring in Manhattan, summer on the New England coast, back to New York for the late fall and then down to Florida for the winter.

I like the European countries but I don't speak the languages and you have to be able to in order to live there, really. Otherwise every day is an obstacle.

I am pretty fluent in spoken (though not written by me) French, including slang and swearing having worked there for 4 years.
I have visited the US frequently since 1970 but would not want to live there.
If I had to go somewhere english speaking it would be Oz, or Canada.

I have been all over the US both for multiple holidays, work and motor racing, my favourite place I stayed was Carmel when we were racing at Laguna Seca, mind you I think it must be a lot of people's favourite place, given property prices...

Yes the coast from Bodega Bay to Carmel is mild to cool in the Summer due to the marine layer (a euphemism for fog). Drive 20 miles inland and can be 20 deg F warmer. It's 65F/18C and cloudy at noon here in Moss Beach. We say Gray May, June Gloom, No Sky July. Our glory time is end of August - November. It's 55-70F year round with a occasional high up to 80F and low to 45F. The cool Alaskan Current is massive heat sink causing the fog at night from the hot inland evaporation with rising air pulling the "marine layer inland.

The M3 6 cylinder engine was fantastic as was the gearbox. The chassis wasn't bad either.
My problem with mine was the seats, looked lovely but gave me back ache within 50 miles and the climate control in winter was uncomfortable too. Shame, it was great to drive on short frantic dashes...

Not to mention a very noisy cabin a very light rear end. I added a Dinan chip, larger throttle body, shock tower brace, front and rear suspension kits and took ten seconds off my lap time year two. A big part of that was less intimidation with late braking. Anyway I digress.

Where to live? It all depends on your priorities and your budget. I’ve been to 28 of the top 30 and lived in 5 of them. If you want friendly people, plenty to do, a nice house and 12 month weather it’s going to cost you $$$. Easy travel to other places might knock out a couple options. Then there’s politics. Freedom these days isn’t free and maybe not even obvious. So, what will you compromise on?
