Hello everyone,

I'm in the market for my first audio system and would love to get some recommendations. Here’s what I’m looking for:
  • Budget: 250 Dollar
  • Availability: China
  • Sources: PC+FOSI v3
  • Music Preferences: classical music
  • Speaker size: 5 inch
  • Listening distance 1-1.5m
Speakers available within the budget:JBL stage A130.I wonder if there are other options.
Open for other suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

There is the Kali LP-UNF which is 300 dollars but is one of the best speaker options available for the price and doesn't require an extra amplifier.

ELAC Debut 2.0 B5.2 speakers are selling for about $230 on Crutchfield - are they available where you are? They'd be a decent choice of current production speakers for classical, I would think...

A collection of passive loudspeakers within your budget

Which ones of these are available in China, I don't know. And to get a rough orientation, look at "tonality - as higher as "better [take it with a grain of salt] and "flatness" - as lower as better [again, take it....]. And of course the bass extension.
Thank you Ziltoe. Your response is an example one why this website is so helpful.

I only found the ELAC DB52 model locally. Is this the same model you mentioned?

Here's a link to the Crutchfield page with the 5.2's...compare photos? The full description is ELAC Debut 2.0 B5.2. I own the B6.2 speakers, which have a slightly larger woofer (6") and slightly larger cabinet, but they are a little over your budget.
Thanks.I compared the parameters and appearance of the two and can confirm that they are the same model. And in China, its selling price is approximately $260.I like it! Thank you for your suggestion. I will buy it.

Great! I hope you like your set. I've been very pleased with mine. Great for nearfield and small to medium rooms. Decent bass, even with the 5" woofer. They will pair well with the V3 amp.

JUst FYI, Fosi is about to bring out a P4 preamplifier to match their amps...no price info yet. I'm a beta tester. In case down the road you need more sources and/or would like simple tone controls..

Ups, that's a swift decision. The Elac certainly is a good choice, however, in your case I would wait for other people opinions [there is so much more knowledge out there]. Not to confuse ya and I'm just thinking: You will be driving/powering the speakers by your FOSI v3, right? The source however comes from your PC? In such a case, provided you're not that much in love with the FOSI, powered speaker might be a better option, particularly when it comes to nearfield listening [you've mentioned 1m to 1,5m [the latter is generally considered mid-field.... however]. Many can cope with, at least as good as the Elac.

Powered speaker up to 300US$ a pair

What I see as an advantage, many powered speaker have little dips and knobs to adjust frequencies -> recommendations so to say for i.e. desks, close to the wall, corners, free field etc. to achieve the most "flat" [as it could possibly be in YOUR room] response. In case you are with me, I only can support @bachatero recommendation.

Keep in mind you can always use Equalizer APO/Peace software to correct room response or to smooth out a passive speaker's FR curve...the ability to do that is not strictly the province of active speakers...
