I have several Mapleshade jazz recordings which from about 15 years ago - well-recorded music by artists with whom I am not familiar - which limits my enjoyment. My Mapleshade recordings are an example the notorious "good recordings that I bought for the sound, not the music" audiophile trap. Well-recorded classical music can bypass that problem, since the music is widely known.

Founded in 1986, Mapleshade began as Pierre Sprey's home recording studio -- affectionately referred to as "Edison's Lab" by jazz great Walter Davis Jr. We record live to two-track analog, transfer to digital at a rate 100 times faster than the CD standard, and use no add-on EQ, reverb or noise reduction electronics. Our recordings are made with only 2 to 4 microphones and no cables longer than 20 feet. The resulting sound has startling, "in-the-room" clarity, raw and exciting, full of the life that few studios capture.

I also attended a Chanticleer Christmas music performance at the St. Ignatius Cathedral on the University of San Francisco campus about 20 years ago. My seat was about 10 rows from the front, and next to a man in the aisle seat who was recording the performance with a digital tape recorder and a pair of stereo microphones mounted about a foot apart next to him, and up on a 10ft. pole in the center isle. I regret not asking about his recording and whether I could get a copy. Chanticleer has released at least 38 CD's and the ones I have heard are excellent. I don't know much about how and were they recorded, but I think they are mostly studio recordings.

Thank you Mario for once again making us a generous offer.
Have you ever considered making a 5.1 channel mix?
Something like that would be very appreciated by the multichannel lovers.
TIA, Sal

Thank you Sal for listening once again. We have our hands full with this project. It has taken us a long time to come to this results. We are now trying to make it work commercially...

Not only did I take advantage of Mario’s generosity , I purchased the Russia album after a listen to the gratis download.

Verum ear speakers and Sabaj DAC/amp have a beautiful presentation of both downloads. Am curious as to other’s opinions.

Highly recommended by the Winter Park Wino...
