Pioneer car head unit into a JDS Labs headphone amp at home

Hello, I just ordered a Pioneer head unit that has 3 sets of 4v RCA preouts. Front, Rear, and Subwoofer. The front preouts are labeled Standard or High Range Outputs. The rear preouts are labeled Standard or Midrange Outputs. I'm confused whether I should use the front preouts or rear preouts going into my JDS Labs Atom Amp. Obviously I want to be able to get the high range and mid range together when I listen through headphones.

I'm making this little project so that I can utilize HD Radio at home since it's nearly impossible to find an HD Radio receiver any more.

Thanks!

Do you have the user manual?

Is "range" frequency? Or voltage level?

Right. You want the full frequency range unless you are building a bi-amped or tri-amped system.

I tried to attach the manual but an 8mb pdf is too large. See if this helps... The model is DEH-S7200BHS.

With these headunits the output is variable, so if you set volume to max, its clipping despite your amp having a separate volume control. You'll probably get a "Normal" 4V output at ~20% to ~30% volume on the headunit. It's not like a phone where "Max" is line level.

Edit: With headunits, more volts doesn't mean better quality. The higher volts on the RCA fight against inference better. Some audio products do not like a higher voltage RCA (Ex: 2V max car amps).

Front and Rear outputs should output the same signals without any DSP (hopefully). I would leave the standard mode on, some DSPs you have to leave on (Ex: Subwoofer size).

Edit: For the antenna, you can literally use any piece of wire and shove it in the antenna hole.

Well I got it hooked up. It looks pretty redneck but it works good. Pioneer CD/HD Radio Tuner, into a JDS Labs Atom Headphone amp, Fiio FT1 closed back headphones.
