Until I attempted to photograph them, I never appreciated how much of a bird's time is spent doing un-photogenic things, and in general, not facing in the direction of one's camera!
There’s an Anna’s hummingbird with a territorial perch visible and imminently photographable from my back yard, but he is ALWAYS facing away from me.
 
I was vaguely aware that they never disappeared entirely, but it's been years since I've seen a new flexi disk in the wild:
