Pianos are built for several lifetimes so they have to be tested

A long time ago, my friends in engineering school built a solenoid driver for the keys of an IBM electric typewriter to turn it into a printer. IBM honored the warranty for that abuse. Later, I worked in reliability engineering where we develop accelerated failure testing. In that case for chips.

Now comes accelerated wear out and failure testing of pianos. Not sure they needed the strings and soundboard for that, but it makes for an impressive demonstration.
