When you realize all too late that your postage stamp collection is worthless. When you experience the meaning of worthless deeply. When the era passes.

I know a guy who has a collection of vintage telephones which he imagined to be valuable. He thought one of his kids might be interested because they were there while was collecting them but they all turned him down. He hasn't had any outside offers either.

There are always some preppers, so let them do what they want. One do not need to follow them.

Hows he going to listen to anything without electricity? Does he collect 78s and gramophones?
Not to mention spending 18 hours a day looking for food and trying not to end up as food.

"When it all goes down" are the exact words I heard someone say in the days before Y2K, and he definitely seemed upbeat about being ready with his AK47 and 12-volt lighting. For all I know, he's still trying to burn through his stash of survival rations. I'd have loved it as a kid, where you could fight wars, but the worst casualty might be someone getting a scrape or bruise, and everyone goes home to a bath and a good hot meal.

One day I'll still have my CDs, but all you whippersnappers will just have a collection of 1s and 0s on file! Oh...wait...

I too still keep all the physical disks—CDs, SACDs, DVDs, LPs— in my large cabinets at upstairs office even though almost all of them have been ripped/digitized into non-compressed .AIF, .DSF, .ISO digital libraries within several HDDs, SSDs...;)

I took one item out of the spoiler box.

The world has already ended - we're just constructs of AI, but I still have my ol' guitar.

I'm an AI hallucination. That explains so much!

When everything goes down, he'll be the first victim cos he clearly can't adapt.

"Campbell was grinning as he purchased the 50th anniversary edition of Jaws in 4k, which he anticipated would give him full control over the drinking water supply in the event of a nuclear winter situation."

hilarious

Whenever I find myself despairing over the collapse of civilization, I think of The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder. It's a pretty good fix.

All I can say is, "Ours is not to wonder why; just invert, and multiply".
