The ancient Greeks are known to have used at least two types of room treatments:

1. they placed wine containers (amphorae) in the walls with the ends open, which functioned as Helmholtz resonators.

2. the seats - this article suggests it was accidental but ancient people often knew more than we think

I was actually listening to Plutarch's Moral's recently and there were a few random digressions that were more or less wondering aloud how room treatments worked. Besides those two he also mentioned covering hard floors with sawdust.

Impressive rooms. Other than those large JBLs it appears many of the rooms are under powered / under speakered from my guess. I really like the acoustic treatment behind the listener. I've had success with that method.

Yet to see a satisfactory-looking treated (domestic) room in this thread... The word hideous keeps popping into my mind for some reason.
While not pretty, I don't think my acoustic treatments are particularly offensive.

RPG Absorbors 4" and Ecophon Focus Ceiling with 4" insulation above that.

Geeks like gear. Got photos of what you prefer in terms of visual aesthetics?

I recognize some of these rooms (WSDG, Northward, Spearit Sound, Vicoustic, maybe Transparent?), but would it be possible for you to post some of the original links?

I spent a bit on Google, couldn't find one.

Greek? The image you posted looks like a Roman Theatre.
