Perlisten Owners' Lounge - Discuss all things Perlisten.

That's funny - I like it - it reminds me of Rockport speakers. Rockport's huge Arrakis (which sadly has been dc'd) was my dream speaker for a long time. But now -- I think it will be the Perlisten S7t Black Edition. Expensive, but not super astronomical like Rockport, VonSchweikert, Wilson, and many other very high-end speaker brands. I think it will prove to be one of the best speakers made (and a bargain for what it is).
Is it a cosmetic pattern or actually the driver material?

Yes, there are a lot of people that like "Faux Carbon" Look

Is it a cosmetic pattern or actually the driver material?
One of the reasons why I brought it was because to the checkered carbon fiber diaphragm. That pattern actually has a functional purpose. It's real carbon fiber and it is used to help tune the sound wave radiation.

What about vs Salon2?

I wish perlisten didn’t have that checkerboard pattern on the drivers. It looks terrible to me like fake carbon fiber
No idea as I never heard the Salon 2.
I have the drivers covered since I have 2 cats and a dog but beauty is subjective and I know some love that checkers pattern

I've actually heard it many years ago, but as always, speaker is so room dependent, so it's always really heard to judge.

Any way, if memory serves me right, it sounds better than the measurement looks. But it wasn't memorable, either that, or it's been a very long time.

The S series smoother? Metal dome smoother?
S series is beryllium dome. R series is silk dome.

I have not heard the R series, but have heard many silk domes before. To my ears, as far as dome tweeters are concerned, beryllium is by far my favorite, though I have not heard a pure diamond before. My experience with beryllium is that it's just cleaner with more clarity. I guess I would attribute it to low moving mass for fast transients, low stored energy, high damping.

Very very sad news

Dan Roemer of Perlisten passed away. I hope this is not the end of Perlisten.

Sad. Didn’t know he was ill?
He had noticeable weight loss in the last two years (I saw few videos with him), the thought of health issues did come across my mind, but I just assumed that he was eating healthier and exercising more.

He is probably one of the best modern speaker designers and he isn't talked enough.

This sounds selfish, but what is going to happen to the Perlisten brand? Will the CTO (Erik Wiederholtz) take on all the design work?

Sad. Didn’t know he was ill?
Awful news, Perlisten represents a commitment to high quality and the company went above and beyond on design using the best components. One of my favorite speaker designers of all time, never cutting corners, always brining engineering and quality into the equation.

Hey All - I want to create a thread for Perlisten owners. The purpose is to discuss all things related to Perlisten speakers, including but not limited to:
  • Optimal placement
  • Proper amplification
  • Other equipment/brands that works well with Perlisten
  • New products from Perlisten
  • Or for those who are interested in Perlisten speakers, you can come here to ask any questions you may have.
Please stay on topic.
I just moved to a new home with a smaller listening room. I had Magnapan 3.7x’s, a JL Audio CR1 crossover and 2 Perlisten D12S’s. So I just bought the S5M’s with dedicated stands. My question is should I run the S5M’s sealed or unsealed? My subs are sealed so would I have better integration with sealed speakers? I like sealed speakers. I listened to 15 ohm Chartwell LS/5A’s for 44 years before the Maggie’s.
By the way, a single D12S blew away 2 REL S510’s. With two D12S’s my old room measured flat to 10 hz.

JL audio recommends sealed mains if you can with their sealed subs so sealed S5M with the sealed D12S sounds right. At least it was what their technical support said when I called them. Unfortunately it’s not easy to seal my main speakers so I can’t do it.

Unfortunately, too many good people die too young! Was he the dlr owner of the company or did he have partners?
He has two partners, Erik is the CTO, who is skilled in acoustic engineering. However, I am not sure if Erik alone can fill in.

I hope Perlisten keeps innovating.

Hi all, I'm a huge fan of Perlistien after hearing them and getting a chance to tune them in. Does anyone have an opinion on the S7t vs the B&W 804 D4's? I think the Perlistens hit harder, go louder and they definitely have better internal components. Any feedback before I but them would be appreciated. I'll be selling my 804's, not sure why they struggle with bass and loudness but there is a clear difference.

It's always nice to have software that will phase align and mix your subs with your mains automatically. I use the Anthem software to do it and it does an amazing job but there should be something like it out there. It makes a huge difference or at least in my system it did.

Above reviews measure what is good about Perlisten and bad about B&W.

The hype is beyond hype at this point it’s almost like cult following!
Ah but the following is based on excellent reviews and recommendations based on CTA 2034 measurements. So there is that whole “earned” following thing going on.
