Perlisten Owners' Lounge - Discuss all things Perlisten.

Is this happening on both speakers? Hard to imagine blowing a tweeter on both speakers at the same time. I would try swapping the amp - L-R and see if it follows the amp (assuming it’s only on one side) or stays on the same side. That will tell you if it’s an amp problem or speaker.

It’s on both speakers.
I tried another amplifier to check that it’s not the amplifier problem and they both sound muddy.

A source problem then? I suppose it’s possible that both speakers failed at the same time but that seems unlikely.

I thought so and I tried an another source.
I connected a Denon receiver I have in another room with Denon DCD-1600NE with CD and SACD I listened to too many times so I know how they should sound.
I’ve contacted Perlisten to get their input and my stereo dealer.
I bought my Perlisten and preamp + power amps from him so at least I have one contact.
I’ve connected my Benchmarks with B&W 602 S2 speakers I have and they sound great.

Crazy - Perlisten has been very responsive to me so hope they get you sorted out quickly.

I see in your signature that you are using “bridged” AHB2 mono amps. Into the 4 ohm Perlistens that “might be” close to 700W??

According to their product spec sheet they list bridged 8 ohms as 380W (conservative in their language) and 480W into 6 ohms. They do not specify 4 ohms but it could be quite high. I wonder if the tweeters just got too hot? Just a guess. Please let us know what you find out. I may be overdriving mine too??

I have my Perlisten S7t for two and a half years.
They worked perfectly until now.
I got a high pitch noise today and all the high frequencies are gone.
It’s like I’m listening only to mids. No highs at all
Any idea what could have happened?
Do they have a fuse or something?
I have a pair of R7T for 1.5 yr. After 1 yr, the right one had a failure of the tweeter assembly (that has the 3 tiny drivers). Perlisten sent me a free replacement assembly with instructions how to replace it. All went well for the 6 months after.

I occasionally, or rarely, drive them as loud as they can go without distortion, which is very satisfying. The amp is a Buckeye stereo NCx500 (about 700w/ch with 1khz tone - so maybe 300w with normal music tones). I use dirac on a PC, so it boosts the bass 6db which may cause big amp and speaker loads when loud. I don't know what distorts first - the amp or the speakers?

Do you have a contact email of Perlisten.
I send a message on their website but no reply.

I don’t think they got hot as I just listened for a few minutes and not at a high volume.

When I crossover my two 7RT's to my two 13" subs, I get better bass at 40hz xover than at 80hz. It is not louder, but it is significantly better.

Dirac bass does not allow any adjustment of the xover slope (order) AFAIK.

BACKGROUND
My room is small, and I use Dirac room and bass on a PC. The subs are Outlaw Ultra 13 which cabinets are very large and good. In Dirac I boost bass with Harmon curve +6db bass.

I suggest you first go thru your dealer, like I did. If they cannot/willnot help you then go direct to P. Give them a week to reply.
Also I sent them the REW curve taken axial to the tweeters and 3' away, but I am sure that is not required. But they may have some questions. Pelristen quickly took over from the dealer and were very good.

Perlisten should cheapen their packaging (especially on small parts), so it is double overkill instead of quadruple overkill.
I am thinking of the grills I ordered for the two R7Ts due to grandchildren. I paid more for the 10 grills than my previous pair of speakers. Half the cost was packaging (some exaggeration). Same for the tweeter assembly overkill packaging.

I contact my dealer but wanted to get their input on that too.

@ObiWanKenobi Any updates on your speakers?
Not yet

I'm taking them to my dealer this week so he can have a look at fixing them.
Perlisten contacted them to follow up.
Lucky for me that my dealer sells Benachmark and Perlisten but I managed to isolate the problem to the speakers.
I tried a different amp with same results (sounds like they are underwater).
Tried the Benchmark with other speakers and they sound good so it's the Perlisten that got the problem

Ok thanks. Will be glad to hear the cause. I was suggesting earlier perhaps the bridged mono blocks were too powerful for the tweeter assembly=they both died simultaneously. Mine could be similarly “overpowered” hence my interest.

Anybody have a favorite speaker cable that can be purchased in bulk? I decided to go with some S4b speakers for my surrounds and heights so want to get a decent cable that will do them justice.

I just buy unterminated 12 gauge from blue jeans cable. It is about $1.45/ft.

Some people though go “all in” and spend a lot on speaker cables because they spent a lot on the speakers so why not? I guess it adds to their sense of pride over their speaker purchase.

But many believe the conductive metals just need to be competent at their task=blue jeans quality.

I got speaker cable from WBC (World Best Cables)
They have every gauge up to 7AWG and various companies to choose from.
If you don't require a special gauge you can find them on Amazon.
I'd go for at least 12AWG or 10AWG.
I got 7AWG but I think it's overkill and I'm not using it anymore since I replaced my amp and moved to SpeakOn connection which does not go to 7AWG.
