Perlisten Owners' Lounge - Discuss all things Perlisten.

I looked up the automatic calibration of JL Audio. I was unaware that it existed. If it works as advertised by their literature it certainly would be a great thing to have.

But why would you need that? Do you not have an AVR/P that offers room correction software? Whole room EQ such as advanced audyssey releases and newer DIRAC releases would surely outperform an offering from JL Audio. If the latter was successful you would think JL Audio would market it as a stand alone.
Not if they want their subs to have something exclusive!

Would be nice if Perlisten could have integrated automatic optimization like JL audio especially since they are as expensive but made in China!! Where as JL Audio is made in the USA

You seem pretty convinced of the superiority of JL Audio. Is there any chance you can return your Perlisten subs and buy one of JL Audio?

Looking at some options and opinions. I have a 17.5x13.5x10.2' room. I currently have a pair of 12" Rel 1205 subs I had in my living room setup, now with a new dedicated room build I want to upgrade. I am also trying to take advantage of the Trinnov waveforming tech well (cylindrical as I cannot raise the subs on the walls). My idea was to get a pair of Perlisten R12, R15, or if the D series would be necessary, although im not too into the gloss finish as these will sit right under my screen. I would be placing the 12" Rel's in the back as the absorption bit of it until I can upgrade those as time and finances allow.

Goal is to get deeper and more accurate bass, my rep's now show there limitations, especially on action movies like "no time to die" car scene with the machine gun spray, as well as others like blade runner 2049. and with waveforming to get more consistent bass in all seats.

Currently have a 7.4.2 setup with KEF 5160's all-around bed layer, KEF 250RRM for atmos, Trinnov Alt16, Amp16.

Thanks!

AVS forums has a really excellent trinnov owner’s forum (https://www.avsforum.com/threads/trinnov-altitude.1516103/page-1518?post_id=63478276#post-63478276). You would be well served to visit with them.

Also Britain’s AVforums also has an excellent trinnov owners forum (https://www.avforums.com/threads/tr...-discussion-help-experiences.2279879/page-222) and more importantly

a Perlisten Sub owners forum (https://www.avforums.com/threads/pe...ral-discussion.2398433/page-124#post-32445283)

All three can give you excellent answers and suggestions for waveforming questions and sub options.

I've been there, thanks lol. I mostly wanted just opinions on size/power recommendations for room size. Also if anyone has the aforementioned models.

I would still ask on the Britain Perlisten sub forum. They have more Perlisten sub use than we do. Perlisten has a British distributor and is easy to obtain.

Hey All - I want to create a thread for Perlisten owners. The purpose is to discuss all things related to Perlisten speakers, including but not limited to:
  • Optimal placement
  • Proper amplification
  • Other equipment/brands that works well with Perlisten
  • New products from Perlisten
  • Or for those who are interested in Perlisten speakers, you can come here to ask any questions you may have.
Please stay on topic.
Do the perlisten D215s require a 20 amp line? The manual requests it. Do most owners run separate dedicated lines or use a 15 amp line and let the on board computer make adjustments?

I have read posts on Avs sub forum about incredible amount of subs and electronics on a single 15 amp circuit.

I already had 3 20 amp lines so I use 20 amp. No one will discourage you from adding 20 amp lines.

Does anyone know feet screw size on the R15s?

I am new to the group and have purchased a pair of the Perlisten rt7 towers and r5c center. I have been using SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacles and like the bass from these speakers. With eight 8" subwoofers, I supposed that is to be expected. The Perlisten subwoofers are much smaller, so my question is, how much difference will I hear between the two brands, particularly in 2-channel music listening? For movies, I'm not as concerned since I have two SVS Ultra PB16 subs. My family room is treated with quite a bit of Gik Acoustics traps and diffusion, so I got good measurements from REW. I will use DiracLive with bass management with my Marantz AV10. I am powering the LRC using a Buckeye 3-Channel 700W per amplifier. Thanks for any feedback.

I would expect you to hear a difference (you do not like) simply because you already “expect” you will hear a difference.

The woofer drivers in the Perlistens are much better at heat dissipation and reduced distortion. They will play louder with less distortion.

BUT you have become “habituated” to the sound of the SVS. Give it time to become habituated to less distortion of the perlisten sound. Also, why not use subs with your music? Bass adds warmth and emotion to music-so…….

I have no expectations. When using the SVS Pinnacles, I found they sounded better in the full range without the subs in stereo. That could be changed with EQ, but I heard no reason to do so. Where I struggle with the SVS is in the mids and highs. I am willing to sacrifice exaggerated bass for cleaner and less distorted output. I hope to hear opinions from anyone with experience with both speakers. It's always subjective and I will hear for myself in a few days.

I had the SVS prime elevation for surrounds. I had to change them out as they were too harsh and brassy compared to the perlistens.

That's good to know. For surrounds, I am using all SVS in my 9.2 setup except for my rears, which are Acoustic Zen Adagio towers. I'm in a family room that is open to the dining room and kitchen. I spent a good amount of money treating the room to tackle the 40htz to 60htz range. It will never be perfect, but the difference in pre-room treatment is amazing. I expect I will replace my surrounds over time. This is a jump in price for the main speakers, but I am excited to hear them. I was also looking at the Arendal 1528 Tower 8, but they are very new and have little user feedback. I've not heard any negative feedback on the Perlisten.

Hi There - just joined ASR as I am building out my first real HT system. I was planning to begin with a 5.2.5 setup but now thinking to move up to a 7.2.5 with the option to eventually build out to a 7.4.7 setup. I've been very interested in Perlisten as I've had a D12s in my current setup and love the sub. Though I've had two amp modules go bad, Perlisten has been very responsive and has replaced the failed amp module each time, the last time even though the sub is out of warranty. Apparently there was a design issue that they fixed. I mention this for the benefit of anyone interested in Perlisten and want to know how good is their support.

Regarding my setup, I will use my current LCR but thinking of the R4b for surrounds and possibly for the heights (or maybe R4s). Alternately, I am looking at the R3ic for the heights. TMR also recommended an R3ic for the VOG speaker but not sure how that would work given they have a 30˚ offset. I'm looking for any feedback from folks using the R4b or the R3ic. Does anyone know of a bracket for the R4b that would allow aiming of the speaker when used as a height channel (ceiling mounted).

Also, for the second sub, I just got a D212s as I was able to get if for the same price as a D12s - the sub should arrive next week and I"m really looking forward to trying it out.

My room is still in the planning phase - I have a dedicated 15' x 23' room that is currently stripped down to the studs so there's a lot of work ahead of me but I am excited to be able to finally build out a proper HT system!

TIA for any advice - Perlisten related or otherwise. I have a lot of experience with high end two channel audio systems but not so much with HT systems so I appreciate any feedback.

Cheers, Joe

I have S4S (same bracket) and yes it would allow up/down elevation changes to be made and fastened. But the side to side swivel has no way to fasten it to the desired angle other than friction.

The “b” will provide more authority (and bass) as a surround. Not sure how important that improvement would be for an atmos speaker.

Key there (atmos) is tweeter/waveguide matching.

I asked Perlisten to what tolerance are the S7t SE pair matched to. Remind you the S7t LE are pair matched to .5dB.

I was told by Perlisten that the S7t are pair matched to 1.5dB. I was a bit disappointed if I am honest, Ascend Acoustic pair match their Sierra line to 1dB, I expected the S7t SE to also be pair matched to 1dB.

That explains why the imaging of my S7t when compared to my Neumann KH 120 (pair matched to .5 dB) is a big difference.

I wonder what most speakers that do pair matching, to what tolerance they are typically pair matched to.
Do you hear that 1.5db ?

I have my Perlisten S7t for two and a half years.
They worked perfectly until now.
I got a high pitch noise today and all the high frequencies are gone.
It’s like I’m listening only to mids. No highs at all
Any idea what could have happened?
Do they have a fuse or something?
