Perceptual Differences Between Sighted and Unsighted Music Listening

Well my habits and experience seems to differ from many here. I find I have a much more convincing and realistic (whatever that means) soundstage with my eyes open, my eyes seem to focus the components to remain where they are. With my eyes closed these component parts tend to drift slightly IME, maybe this is due to micro movements of my head, IDK? I much prefer visualising a soundstage spread across the room in front of me and I find this somewhat more consistent and reliable with eyes open. For similar reasons I don’t find headphone listening as enjoyable, I simply don’t experiance as convincing a soundstage (and miss the visceral kick of a drum or bass thud). I agree that the aural and visual senses are inextricably linked (just check the McGurk effect for example).

With eyes closed I would break my head cause most of the time I'm walking around in front of the speakers when listening.

Usually I'm walking around but I don't limit myself to the door-less (you would have to custom make some pretty wide doors to put some in) room that the stereo is in!
