I am looking for an optimal solution for my bedroom PC/TV desktop setup. I have a 34" ultra widescreen monitor sitting on my desk and a 65" LG C2 OLED mounted just above it on the wall. I do not have the space to put a full size home theater receiver and am looking for a 2.1 that can serve as near field computer speakers as well as TV speakers where the volume can be controlled through an HDMI ARC connection (so that the LG or Apple TV remote will control volume while watching TV in bed... about 13 feet away).

In previous attempts at budget oriented improvements, I always find the lack of ARC made TV volume adjustment too cumbersome. But I know there is a better solution than what I'm doing right now.

Currently, I have an LG soundbar sitting on my desk, underneath my monitor with the included subwoofer below it on the floor. It sounds reasonable, but it has it's own inherent quirks (like I have to switch it to bluetooth input connection for the LG phone app to connect to it in order to make any sound modifications). The soundbar stays in "HDMI/Optical" input where the optical input is coming out of my PC and the HDMI is coming out of the TV. Because the TV and the Soundbar are LG, the soundbar turns on when the TV turns on. This is nice. It functions for the most part but I have amazing theater sound in the rest of my home, and would like to lay out a plan to improve sound quality in my bedroom.

Optimally, I would like to have 2 bookshelf speakers and a sub that can easily be volume controlled via the LG or Apple TV remote as well as Windows when I change the input. I'd prefer the speakers on the small size, and a subwoofer that can deliver a chest kick when volume is up. Last week, I got a JBL Partybox 120 for a completely different purpose and was testing it in that bedroom, and I was blown away with how rich and powerful the bass felt in that room from that single speaker (Amazing deal on an open box for $220 and its the best damn portable speaker I've ever listened to). That speaker is definitely not size appropriate for my bedroom, but I imagine I can design a solution to get a similar experience within the parameters I've described. Looking for recommendations for either a powered bookshelf with HDMI/ARC and sub out (there really aren't many), or a small 2 channel amp with HDMI ARC and a sub out. Budget is around $1000 for complete set up. Any and all help is appreciated.

For the Amp, I'd buy either the WiiM Amp/Amp Pro/Amp Ultra, or the Acrylic B50.

All of them have ARC input with CEC volume control, and all support PEQ room correction.

The WiiM via the free WiiM Home App, the Acrylic via a $20 software tool for Windows and Mac.

The WiiM has automatic input switching, on the Acrylic I'm not sure.

Seconded recommendation for the Wiim Amp. Seamless integration with the TV through hdmi arc and very easy to set it and forget it.

For an amp, the Wiim Amp line as already recommended is a no brainer.

For active/powered desktop speakers, there's a few options. Check out the Kanto Ren, Elac Debut ConneX DCB61, refurb KEF LSX II, or Klipsch The Fives.
