PAS 2002PCA PA amplifier vs MC2 S800

Hi,
I finally received this PAS Audio 2002PCA, I ordered it at the end of April and it was very long, because we had to wait for the craftsman to weld and assemble this beautiful amp by hand, so about 10 weeks of waiting . I think he had difficulties getting electronic components, moreover the amplifier is currently unavailable for three months at Thomman.

For the moment I am discovering the amp, but already I can say that it works very well. It is wonderfully quiet, in the speakers there is no hissing or snoring. The toroidal transformer makes almost no noise, even with the ear glued to the facade the typical sound of toric is very very very low, barely audible. For the sound I wait a bit, but already the bass is formidable and the power impressive. In short, I am happy.

Hi,

Any pros / cons about 2002 PCA after few months using?
It's on my watchlist too.

Hi,

The PAS audio 2002 PCA is still a good buy, even after 2 months of use it still looks great: quiet, not hot, calm, awesome. The sound is fabulous for the price, I especially like the very generous bass.

Be careful if you are not familiar with professional equipment, think that you will need specific cords and sockets: ask me if you want me to tell you what to choose.

Can you confirm that this photo is of the current products?

Usually, PAS 2002PCA

Ignore SINAD, it is a measurement too simplistic, at least to me.

I would not ignore the SINAD completely, it serves as a first approximation to separate the wheat from the chaff, but it is sufficient that it goes to a decent level and then the actually value sort of loses importance, except for bragging rights. It is indeed too simplistic, also for me.

I too run MC2 amps (T500, T1000, T1000) into a three way active DIY speaker, so would be very grateful for these measurements. In my personal experience they are extremely good sounding amps, and I have had for them for many years without issues (all fans switched out to noctua silent ones).
could we have some more information about your 3way active speakers . I am collecting mc2 amps and would like to do something like this

Hi ! The PAS audio 2002PCA is no longer available from Thomann, I think the German craftsman manufacturer had to retire and close his workshop. Now there are new studio amps on the market, they are American, they are more expensive than the old PAS audio 2002PCA, but qualitatively do you think they are good: the references are AVANTONE CLA 100, CLA 200 and the big CLA400, they are beautiful with their VU meters.

I bought myself the MC2 T-1500. Should be able to try it after new year. Home use only. I have read they are amazing amplifiers. Pretty ugly but if it sounds good, I will keep it regardless. I wonder how it measures.

thats a nice amp !! I like mc2 the effortless feeling of having hundreds of watts on even smaller loudspeakers is addictive . however mine can sometimes have transformer hum on start up and the fans can be quite loud . I think I'll put them in the loft eventually where it shouldn't be an issue . I'm hoping to collect some of the t series eventually so quite envious of your find !

they have forced air cooling for a start ,whereas home amps rely on convection . I have an old technics 25watt class a amp that has a fan on the back . I can't recall ever hearing it come on though

I got my amp. I am very very impressed with it. It is stupid powerful but that’s not why I like it. It is super balanced. Detailed sound, big soundstage, the instruments sound like live almost, very good vocals.

However, the fans. Ohh those stupid loud fans!

Hahaha I know I know but I think there's a quieter fan mod you can do ?....

I dunno I think those silent pc fans are pretty quiet . do you have the option to install the amplifier somewhere outside of the room ? I'm thinking about putting one of mine in the loft as the system is in the bedroom . I have one in the front room and the fan noise isn't that noticeable really . the amp is in a built in cuboard but the door is left slightly ajar... in fairness though our living room is quiet noisey most of the time anyway .
where did you pick your amp up ? was it ebay ? I got both mine from there . the mc1250 was sold as spares repair with one channel down .when I came to try it out it worked perfectly ! not sure if the limiters were set up wrong or something.

I will go after T1000 because it has an option where you can set the fan where it comes on at 90 degree Celsius. And I would still change the fans, have someone do it most likely. I think this should be a better option for the noise. The power will still be a lot with T1000.

I got my amp on FB Marketplace.

that's good information I didn't know that . the t series also has the option to add crossover cards that mc2 will build for you allowing vertical active biamping and so on .really good amps

That’s the info I saw on the manual. Need to reconfirm with MC2.

I would like with how many volts or dbu do you attacks you mc2 amp. For me they have so much gain . About 32db at 1.4v. Do you use with a lot of attenuation?

Regards
