Parts Express DIY C-Note Speaker Review

...I guess I should put inside more damping compared to mdf version due to longer internal reflections (densier, stiffer surface etc)...
Good lining (something like 30mm Acousta Blue, not 1/2-inch open cell foam) will work in pretty much any two-way bookshelf. Keep it simple - build to the same volume, line it the same, keep the tweeter unchanged.

I am making na active version of C-Note from concrete in a spherical shape. I guess I should put inside more damping compared to mdf version due to longer internal reflections (densier, stiffer surface etc). Should I therefore make internal volume slightly larger to compensate the volume of damping material, or leave it as it is?

Also, since I’ll have to do a crossover from scratch anyway, would it be a good idea to upgrade tweeter to more expensive model (if yes, which one), or will it ruin directivity? I don’t see many tweeters with a waveguide under ~60 USD. I assume it’s safer to stay with proven combo DSA135-8 + ND25FW-4, but since digital crossover allows flexibility it’s tempting to consider an upgrade.

The nd25fw is really good already, theres not much benefit in the alternatives if youre just going to use a 5 inch woofer. The seas dxt and sb26wg have lower fs but its kind of pointless since the waveguides of that size lose pattern control well above their fs, a lower xover point isnt of much benefit.

That tweeter is special.
I had it actively crossed 24db LR @ 3.5khz.

Very very good, but yes, it would be nice if it could go deeper……

The driver is kind of insane for how cheap it is.

One can peruse more tweeters on this site here. It's quite surprising how most are worse in response and CSD.

I built a cnote sized speaker with 3" radius on the sides and used this tweeter to a 5" mid with active filtering. It's still one of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard.
