Parks Audio Waxwing measurements

Not many TT that has so tall feet that a waxwing would go under..optical judgement based on visit at a friend who has Waxwing I guess it is 1” -1.5 thick. It should go under my 1.5” Gyro feet Most TT have quite short feet it seems , less than 1/2” . But someone surely will post measurements soon, I will be interested to know dimensions too…

I own the Marantz TT-15S1 and it has 1.5" clearance with the thinner acrylic plinth. I'm able to slide my Wiim Pro under it so I kinda figured the Waxwing would fit.

Seems to safely under 1.5”

Is it A Denon SUT I see there?

What has happened to your Waxwing? Looks infected by something..
Just lighting from a led lamp and my shaky hand holding the tape and phone on knees under the trolley the deck is on.

Seems you have the same Usb microscope as me, and the ART interface too, and therefore also AnalogMagik maybe ?
No AnalogMagilk. :(

I’ve been threatening to load the cart measurement script. Have a bunch of carts I could ad to the library and test for myself. We’ve gone through a second hurricane dumping surge in our home and finally back in organized again. My wife is suffering from PTSD over it all. House is listed and first showing tomorrow. That’s throwing a wrench in doing much playing around.

Just spinning occasionally and <gasp> streaming a lot when I can.

Hello,
has anyone ever taken high-resolution photos of the Waxwing's interior or found them online?
I'm just curious what this wonder box is equipped with!
Regards

If no reply … and you’ve a fine screwdriver …

I received my Waxwing yesterday, and so far it's proving to be everything I hoped for, plus a bit more: Like Puffin, Waxwing has a feature which assists in adjusting cartridge azimuth. I was shocked to discover that this was off by around 1 mm on my turntable, possibly because I had disassembled the AT-LP120USB tonearm at one point. And so, I loosened a couple of the screws on the arm tube, and was able to make a correction. Even so, the slightly loose SME-style headshell connection itself allows for a tiny amount of slop, such that one channel might have 28 dB of separation, and the other, 32 dB. With a little bit of fussing, I was able to reduce this variance to ~1 dB, but perhaps I should've been concentrating more on maximizing those numbers, rather than worrying about best match, especially since I'll lose that last Nth of adjustment the moment I loosen the headshell lock nut. Shanon Parks demonstrates the technique on Puffin, but Waxwing works the same way.

Hello. Could someone give me the exact height dimensions of the Waxwing. I ordered one and seeing if it will slide underneath my turntable. Thank you.
Something to keep in mind if it doesn’t fit underneath your turntable—the Waxwing has removable rubber bands on the front and back which serve as feet for the unit and increase its height. If you remove the bands, the Waxwing becomes a bit slimmer and able to squeeze into tighter spaces.

I cannot hear , see or measure anything resembling overload problems on my Parks Audio Puffin at MM gain 40 and MC (0.35mv) at 61.. ( sweeps, test record track or music show no clipping when recording digitally extreme vinyl level in the worst test track requires lowering gain by 7db). I have checked a see that the clipping detector on Puffing works correctly. -Any signal peak above 2.11volt out gets a clipping flag- ..
And it is dead quiet, hard to tell if my Hifi is on or not at full volume and ear 1” from the speaker cone.

So I suspect this overload concern is something that shows up in technical test situations ( I do not doubt Amirms test plots) , but the significance in my real life system is not there really.
Technically I struggle to see the benefit of sending a 10V signal from RIAA with massive overload capability to an amplifier that gives rated output at 0.3volt and clips at 2V….

The noise level out of my Puffin is -84db or less relative to 2.11 volt at 61db gain with MC cart on. Few records has a vinyl noise better than -50, the lowest I have on a mint test record is -60. So any RIAA better than -80 for MC is good enough for a good listening experience I think, I do not like to hear any hiss or rush or grunge when the stylus is off the record . In my system a hav an an extra 10db gainin preamp to level with the CD input giving a total MC gain of 70db, and it is dead silent(1”from speaker cone) on any listening level. Noise performance is not a problem in my system .

I am writing this just to let people know that what could appear as a problem really is not, Maybe Parks did something smart in the implementation..

Just for fun, this week I dusted off my Puffin and am using it as:

a) An MC head amp for my ART9XA. Phono EQ is to LINE IN (i.e. no RIAA), gain is set to 24 dB, which should output 3mV to the L-590AXII's MM input.

b) A digital toolkit for my MP-500, so I can track cartridge hours, reduce the capacitive loading (L-590AXII is hard set to 320 pF), and mess around with de-clicking, azimuth and whatnot. Phono EQ is also set to LINE IN, gain is set to 0 db.

The whole appeal of the Waxwing and Puffin really should be the magic function, right? $100 phono preamps can get RIAA right, and there are myriad other ways to do EQ or do ADC for the curiosity of analyzing on a computer. For $500 seems like a great package but only if the magic function is of value. I don’t have one yet but am becoming increasingly more interested solely for reduction of pops and clicks.

Magic is not the major appeal for me.

It’s the ability to do EQ of the cart in a better way than futzing with loading.
