Panasonic DP-UB9000 UHD Player Review

Hi guys,
Just want to update you that Panasonic replied to my question and stated that there’s an XLR analogue volume control in audio settings. I guess this is somewhat helpful, yet not practical..

In the end, I opted for an integrated amp, which is easier for my setup.
If the XLR outputs are variable as this post states with screen shot of settings, doesnt that mean that the voltage out of the XLR's conceivably goes to at least 4.0volts?

i transplanted my panasonic 450 laser into my failed panasonic 9000 and it seems to be working perfectly now after 2 days of testing . My panasonic 9000 was pixelating and Freezing from day 1 and i bought it new in 2018. The AKM dac version

i don’t know if u need a grounding strap like in the CD laser days but i used one anyway

the sled, , wormscrew, laser EVERYING on the disc drive was identical on the 450 compared to the panasonic 9000

here is the panasonic 9000

and here is the panasonic 450 4k player

where the panasonic 9000 excels is there proprietary discs drive cover which i’m assured yields a more holographic soundstage ,superior color bit depth and class leading greyscale

does anyone know what manufacturers use on the wormscrew , lithium grease? molykote EM30L . i have some other blu ray players i’m trying to fix

spoke too soon

tonight about 7 movies into this new laser my 4k of John Wayne’s The Searchers pixelated and froze on the panasonic 9000

Is it connected on internet? Some users suggest this might play a role.
well it’s been about 2 weeks since your suggestion

i remember years ago reading on a forum when you Update firmware on a player you should do a full factory reset of the blu ray player

Maybe it was one of the beta testers for oppo at avsforum i don’t remember

so chose to do a full re-set on the panasonic as a way of disconnecting it from internet

. After that i played about 40 4k movies , most of them triple layer discs and did not have one freeze or pixelate

everything was beautiful till 4 nights ago i played Sidney Lumet’s 4k of Network, a release from Criterion .

it pixelated in the first 20 minutes . Took it out and put it in the Oppo 205 and it played flawlessly, as Oppo always does . Bummer

then i stumbled on a series of videos on utube , where a British man claims the stuttering and pixelation epidemic seen on Panasonic 4k players is due to inadequate grease on the optical drive rails and wormscrew . I thought this was Baloney but what the heck…

So i dismantled my panasonic 9000 and removed what grease they had on the rails and wormscrew with IPA

then i put on some molykote

the Network 4k played perfectly after that, and i’ve watched about 10 triple layered 4k’s in the last 4 days , and , touch wood, none have frozen , none have pixelated

Good afternoon!

New to the site but have lurked around the forums to help me with upgrading my system this year.

I decided to purchase the 9000 based on the review here and a couple of other sites. Despite the fact it apparently can’t play SACD, Blu-ray audio, or DVD audio.

This is not my experience however.

I’ve tried them all and have had no issues with playback at all.

Were these players quietly upgraded?

Has anyone else got a newer unit that’s universal?

It plays BluRay audio the SACD plays the CD layer in this Panasonic. The only universal player I know of is Magnetar but never heard it

It’s a good thing I’ve only got one SACD then!

Pink Floyd's Dark Side. Sounds great to me, I was just surprised that it even played.

Really happy with this player. I plan on adding more blu ray audio and UHD movies to my collection.

I was way overdue for an upgrade. Previous player was a PS3

If only Panasonic would update and upgrade their players
They are more likely to discontinue them. Disk sales are dying and the only company still making mechanisms is LG. As far as I can tell the only mass market companies with product still in the market are Panasonic and Sony and even then Sony only have a single product in their lineup.

We won’t see another disc format and as with the transition from CD sales to streaming we’ve see a reduction in media quality in streaming vs disc.

If you want high quality in this world the cost of entry goes right up as you have to invest in Kaleidescape.

You find this of interest relating to the SACD of DSOTM.

I bought my Sony UBP-X800 (region free modded) in 2018, and the Panasonic DP-UB820 in 2019. Thankfully both are still going strong all these years later, but I am debating buying a "backup" X800M2 just in case.. but that's $400 with the mod (could be higher now since they are discontinued)*. I have seen the slightly more stripped-down Panasonic 420 as low as $330 new recently, but also the even more stripped-down DP-UB154P model for $225.

Edit: Yup! Just checked the place I got the X800 from, and they raised the M2 model to $589 USD

This is why I ended up getting the Panasonic. I saw a lot of this talk on the internet about the death of physical media and wanted a player before they stop making them. I still own close to 500 cd’s and a lot of Blu-rays.
