Palmer ORBIT 11 Cardioid Coaxial 3-way studio monitor (MSRP 799€/899$)

That’s what concerns me, actually. I have a pair on order, since early last month, which might not show up now in USA for months. If I cancel now, what might the price be later if I try again?
Red One Music here in Canada sent me this:

“…We have 10 pcs that will normally arrive anywhere between Late March and Late April depending on production and delivery delays. There are 4 left available that can be reserved for you out of these 10 that arrive...”

I’d imagine that US distributors will be receiving some in a similar time frame…well, fingers crossed anyway. ;)

Aluminum, coaxial, good sound, and reasonable price
So what's the catch? ;)
Aside from subjectivity, aesthetics, pricing and distribution questions, other sleights may include

Possibly audible group delay
Directivity beaming ~150hz (did I make that up?)
Fixed crossover at 80hZ
Normal Spl limits of this size
Somewhat Narrower directivity according to taste

I'm not bashing here. This is an impressively miniscule list.

Who'd have thought that any speaker might not be perfect in every way?

What are you comparing that to? +-60°is 20% wider that the the non-purifi Ascilabs (+-50°) that are rightfully lauded here. The wider directivity is one of things about Orbit 11 that interest me.

Should all of this tech in one speaker not been out long ago at these prices ?
Its about time id say. :)

Can not yet imagine how they do that, but it's amazing.
The largest openings in the enclosure are those of the side woofers, so I assume that this is where access is easiest, unless the chassis are glued in place, which I can't imagine.

With an aluminum enclosure, I would have preferred an unpainted version or one coated with clear lacquer.

How's the soundstage, instrument separation?
I think at 1m distance the soundstage is somewhat compromised. Even with KEFs the soundstage improved significantly when I put these speakers in my main living room at 2.5m distance.
In terms of instrument separation I can tell that Orbits are more revealing and more analytical. You can get a better sense where instruments are sitting in the frequency domain.

  • Tons of low-end. In fact, my main problem now is having too much low-end in my small untreated room. I tried to play with the low-end EQ, and even -6dB is too bassy. I will connect the Wiim streamer later and will try to enable a high-pass filter around 35–40 Hz.

  • There is some rather audible hiss at 1 m. Nothing super annoying, but it is there.

Out of interest, were you able to get both of those things you mentioned improved? (the latter by using the pad reduction)

Yes and yes.

I dialed-in a HP filter in my Wiim streamer. Still plenty of impactful bass but without excessive boominess.

The pad reduction helps to tame the hiss a bit. My previous report was with -20dB pad already activated. I don't think there is a way to eliminate the hiss completely.

Additionally, I tried switching the input to AES (digital), but it didn’t make any difference in the amount of hiss.

I tried to get an idea of these speakers, but to be honest, in 80 pages I've found 20-30 helpful posts about them, all diluted in a sea of noise.
And if we removed the exhausting controversy over the orange ring, this discussion would be half as long.
And please, if anyone asks something that could get buried in tons of other useless discussions, reply, "Just read before posting!"
