Palmer ORBIT 11 Cardioid Coaxial 3-way studio monitor (MSRP 799€/899$)

Longevity?
At least the five year warranty period I would think, there are not a lot of expected warranty replacements baked into this price.

Neumann offers two years, Genelec up to five years after registration btw. Palmer are certainly doing well in this department.

They're damn near unobtanium for a while, for one.
There is some speculation that this is an 'intro' price. No evidence though. Plausible, I guess.

That’s what concerns me, actually. I have a pair on order, since early last month, which might not show up now in USA for months. If I cancel now, what might the price be later if I try again?

OK but some DIP'd Genelec are working for 20+ years. I doubt the display on the Orbit will. Don't get me wrong, it appears to be a fabulous product and am eager to see Amir's testing. I'm just suggesting sometimes less is more.

The way I see it, the „display“ ist just a transparent decal with LED beneath it. No reason it won’t be working in 20 or 30 years.

If that's the case and it's just LED's then I agree with you. I just assumed from the pics I've seen it was an LCD or OLED.

There's a connector for service on the back ;)
Which connector is this? I see there appears to be a hidden socket with a rubber/plastic cover just above the AES output. I'm wondering if this is potential a USB socket for updating the firmware if there are any future revisions?

It's an eight pin connector, no USB port.

Judging from the photos in unpowered state, it looks very much like a decal to me.

Just attempted to elaborate how to disassambe the speaker for some more insight ... but except some srews on the bottom the enclosure is .. ehm ... enclosed.
Can not yet imagine how they do that, but it's amazing.

Would assume for Service, as always (new firmware et al).
Ok thanks. So what would need to be connected to this socket to update the firmware? I’m used to doing firmware updates with a small usb drive?

Ok, just in case anyone is wondering what that means like I have been:

It's just the input sensitivity setting.
Lowering that from whatever factory setting is good advice for most monitors.

BTW, I'm quite amazed that they managed a proper control panel for that price, Genelec still gives you a battery of DIP switches for three times the price.

Good quality switches.

Switches every time.
