Palmer ORBIT 11 Cardioid Coaxial 3-way studio monitor (MSRP 799€/899$)

I'm watching this thread. If the Klippel measurements are good and the directivity is good then I will purchasing for my home cinema.

I won't be chasing high spl necessarily and I'll still be using at least 4 subwoofers.

I prefer to listen to music and movies at 75db, 80 dB at most.

My target curves usually have a bass rise anyway.

In my personal opinion, people who place speakers close to the wall might find it a bit difficult to press the power button. Do you have any plans to develop speaker control software like Genelec’s GLM or Neumann’s MA1?
I know that situation myself. Would recommend a smart power switch as well. I personally use one that I can switch by foot. In combination with a monitor controller like the monicon series I'm more than happy with that solution.

This product is not suitable for children and persons with limited physical, sensory,
or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge.

Apparently, they give you a competency test before the sale?

I would like to know the engineering competency level of the person who attached the Frequency Response chart to the sales materials. It looks absolutely too flat to be true.

The cost doesn't seem too outrageous to me. I think the prices on cardioid at the moment are kind of high as to capitalize on the newness of the tech and the fact that there aren't a lot of options, but you can do good cardioid for pretty cheap. Good drivers just aren't expensive, Kii three woofers and mid are surprisingly inexpensive. 3 channels of dsp amplification is not expensive.

We'll have to wait and see how these do on klippel to know if they're for real, but I'm a lot skeptical of this speaker than most appear to be. That goes double now that we have a rep who is apparently more than happy to have it tossed on a klippel. A refreshing take after so many manufacturers seem to get upset (sometimes threaten litigation) when their junk is shown to be junk.

Super flat on axis is not hard to do with enough DSP and a little smoothing... Heck, you can get your own speakers to measure that flat if you want to go crazy with EQ.

The real question is whether it looks anywhere near this good off axis. The provided measurement looks promising but not perfect...

Just sharing our online available measurements here again as some of you have problems seeing it:

Of course happy to do the Klippel measurement.

Regarding the manual and domestic use: As we are a german brand in europe there are certain legal things we have to put in.

Is there any distortion data for higher levels (86dBSpl or even 96dBSpl)?

In the reported data, these things appear to tick all the boxes I'm interested in. Hope there aren't any unrevealed gotchas!

A full system could be little more than a Wiim Ultra and.a pair of Orbit 11, and some cables and stands. Almost takes the fun out of building a system

Amazing speaker with an amazing value for money this Orbit 11 !
And what a huge surprise !
Nobody expected Palmer to rise upscale the monitoring market with such a sophisticated and well designed speaker. Until now, their only cute little monitor was so so... nothing very attractive in it.

The Orbit 11 is obviously not a small monitor, but a compact full range monitor. Specs are impressive, and their equipment too.
The coax driver makes me think of a Genelec coax (the reference for me) with a larger diaphragm. The double cancel force woofers of Kef Blade and Kii Audio (two other reference speakers). The two cardioid slots look like those on the D&D or the Geithain, (excellent ad expensive brands too). But the price is way more affordable.:)

Only trade off : the only 3 points EQ. That's pretty poor and not up to the excellent level of the other parameters).
Please Palmer, as you follow this thread, may I suggest you to release a quick update by implementing a 10 band EQ and/or a calibration ? It will be worth the extra money (not too much extra please) and your speaker will always be very competitive and much less expensive than your competitors.

And, folks, don't worry for the legal mentions : not suitable for children, intented for professionnal use only, and so on...
It's not forbidden in UE to buy this for home listening or amateur home studio. But you take your responsability in case of misuse or accident (which is true for amateur hifi speakers too, anyway).

I'm impatient to listen to them in or near Paris. I hope Palmer will soon have an opportunity to demonstrate them in a pro shop, and sure will sell many, to pros and non pros !

I interpret those directivity graphs as roughly plus or minus 50 degrees horizontal and vertical dispersion. May I ask if others agree?

Wow, very impressive price point. I don't love the red ring, as it reminds me forcibly of Cerwin Vega lol

Would also be interested in seeing HD at higher SPLs, and compression. I wonder where the midrange is high passed? Interested in IMD as well at various SPLs. Excited to see more!

Regarding the manual and domestic use: As we are a germ

Hello everyone.
Flo from the Palmer video here. Really nice to see the discussion in here!

If you have any questions regarding the Orbit 11 or need more specs, just ask in here and I will try to answer as best as I can or ask our acoustics team ;-).
Hi Flo! thanks for being here.

1. does Orbit11 have 3 amps, one for each driver? seems obvious but the specs keep mentioning 1000W and nothing else.

2. When going AES, the latency of the unused DA converter isn't there anymore. Does this mean Orbit is now processing at a little lower latency than 4,1ms ?

3. care to explain how the cardioid front baffle and the side event work ? mid and high drivers in a separate box than the sealed woofer?

4. I read somewhere: 60 months warranty, is that the case? (I'm in Europe) Filling a form at Palmer required?

Best
Sly

If the published data is confirmed by independent testing (like from Amir) this could be a game changer. Now cardioid speakers are out of the range of most user as they are still very epensive. And distortion is also very low compared to most that i know (even measured on low volume). But let's wait until Amir did his thing with it before drawing conclusion...

I have given him my info to send in the sample.

Also, Palmer is a brand form the Adam Hall Group, which is a huge German conglomerate that has multiple brands that cover touring, lighting, studio gear....
Yep, I live only 5 km away from their headquarters. Impressive development in the last few years… My setups are „endgame“ for now, otherwise these would be on my shortlist as LCRs in my surround setup. While other manufacturers are becoming boutique brands there are also good yet reasonably priced alternatives like these.
A friend has a LD Systems PA set. The two subwoofers are as compact as my Genelec 7350 but the output is enough for a room with 400 people …
