Output from Nilai sounds different using same speaker

Hi,

As I am setting up my system (wiim>modi>saga>Nilai (stereo)>ascend sierra lx), I was experimenting with one cable and one speaker. Noted that one speaker sounded different. Upon isolating it seems as if the output on my Nilai may be the issue as I can reproduce the sound difference on either bookshelf speaker from the same Nilai output and both speakers sound okay from the other Nilai output. Is this normal, is there an obvious fix, any other advice would be appreciated.

Hi @CuriousAudioMan! Welcome to ASR.

If you could make some recordings, that would help.

Here's how:
-Set the WiiM to Mono
-Plug out one of the two speakers, leave the other plugged in
-set up a microphone in front of the speaker (phone works as well) and start recording
-leave the room, close the door if there is one (to eliminate variables), then play a track
-plug the same speaker into the Nilai's other output, then leave the room again and replay the same track

It's fine if the microphone is recording the entire time and you get some empty sections and the sound of you switching things around in between.

By not touching the mic and letting it record through, you're again eliminating variables.

Finally, upload the recording to GDrive etc and post the link here, then we can take a look.

Recording the electrical signal at the speaker terminals is easier and way better.

If it's a BTL amp of the ones that are trending now it's not easy, ground must be isolated.
He can record the Nilai itself though.

Yeah, I can assure you that OP does not have the equipment for that.
If you can record with a mic, you can record the electrical signal. Just use the XLR or TRS input to the interface if balanced is needed. Mics bring a whole new set of repeatability issues that aren't the case with electrical recording.

The Nilai is usually sold as a kit. Did you assemble it yourself, purchase it pre-assembled, or as a used item?

It might require troubleshooting, but I'd consult your vendor or ask for detailed help given the risk.
