Opinions on Hypex Plate (FusionAMP) Amplifiers?

ahh so if I use optical, coax or spdif input, I can use any digital output to connect the 2nd speaker, it doesn't have to be the same type of cable as what I use for input on the first speaker? thanks dude, that's the info I needed!
@voodooless is correct (as is the manual :)) … any digital bitstream input to master is available on any dig output of master which can then be sent to other slave speakers. Do be sure to set digital left/right in the Fusion SW so Hypex knows how to decode that info from the bitstream.

Note this is how I run my Hypex Fusion based actives as you maybe guessed
 
I did see mentioned on a diyaudio thread that if you're using digital input with volume control on the source device, you must use spdif and spdif to connect the slave speaker.. that's something non obvious I'm glad I discovered so I know to use coax spdif cables

The source digital bitstream is also present on the AES outputs (through). So you can “mix and match” SPDIF (coax) and AES master to slave and slave to slave
 
MKR yes but the digital volume level isn't passed via aes, only spdif from what I've read. maybe you can test for us?
 
Yes that is correct. The volume changes are only passed via spdif from master to slave. I learned that the hard way as I already had a nice aes cable configured. This is also shown in a block diagram on the manual.
 
Iam confused. I have AES input going into one of my Ascilab speakers, which is then daisy chained via AES only to 3 more fusion plate amps. Volume control works perfectly on my pre for the whole system

Not true … I am using AES now and it works perfectly with dig volume control

Not sure where you read that? Anyway, works for me.
 
From my post in another thread, more appropriate here … volume control works great, but one issue I have had with the Fusions … Driving direct digital with SPDIF (coax) from Wiim Pro to master Fusion SPDIF, then to the slave with SPDIF the slave has issues to lock on bitstream if I set Wiim output sample rate to >48khz. So 96 and 192 is fully unusable. Not that 44/48 vs 96/192 is even audible, but a bit annoying nonetheless. Master seems to have no issue, only slave.

I found below via a web search. Anyone else have this issue?

I am feeding 4x Hypex amps (Ascilab speakers in daisy chain) with AES digital from my RME Fireface without issues at higher bitrates (at least until 96kHz). I am also using an AES 110 Ohm terminator plug at the last slave unit as I am not sure about internal termination of Hypex plate amps (the manual does not provide any details).
 
This is about volume control on the hypex plate amp itself. Via Hypex Remote or via the USB.

If you use a pre amp this is not an issue as the signal itself is attu aged before entering any plate amp.

If you use the plate amps internal volume control to you need spdif.

I had the same issue. It was not always the case I think some software updates regressed this either on WiiM or Hypex side. I had variable bit rate on and only stumbled across this when some songs only played on the master channel. This also made the moment when this regressed impossible to pin down. I had tickets open with both WiiM and Hypex and could not get this resolved.

I upgraded to the WiiM Ultra since then 0 problems.

I think this is also clearly stated in the manual. Master/ slave functionality (transfer of control data - e.g., volume and preset selection - via digital connection) is only available in coax ,("SPDIF"), not AES. As I use all amps in master mode and do volume control externally, this is no issue for me.
