Hi,

I’m looking for comfortable headphones for long sessions. I have s MPC sampler that i use for recreation and often find myself reaching for headphones despite beeing in the studio. I have a pair very bass heavy fostexth 900 which are closed back, that i don’t like at all, and then i have Hifiman XS edition which infact works really well, depite recessed mids. I guess open back helps here? Also i don’t use separate amp since the one in the sampler is enough even for Hifiman xs.

The issue i have with hifiman is the headache they give, this very special ”headache” is soreness at one little spot on the top of my head, so it’s not very comfortable. I’m also a little interested in what a pair of really good open cans can do.

How is Sennheiser HD 800s? I really like their looks. The most important thing is how they translates to speakers in a studio, rather than just sound ”nice”. HD 800 is the max budget, but i wouldn’t mind spending less for sure.

I guess this is very personal thing but since i’m not into headphones i’d appreciate the knowledge from people on this board.

cheers!

I have read a little, when i wrote yesterday I didn’t remember that my Hifiman was planar magnetic. Maybe that design is the big difference, rather than open or closed back.

Anyway I found this mod for hurting headphones which I probably will do a DIY headband solution on.
