Onkyo TX-RZ30

There is a rumour that an RZ30 is currently in Amirm's review queue....

there is a lot of difference between pioneer 305 and rz30 ? there is 250 $ difference price in france 750/990
The specs on both AVRs are nearly the same and most likely share 90% of internal components. Here is some food for thought:
Onkyo RZ30
- is newer and is DLBC-capable
- has 2 discrete SW outputs
- has full set of pre-outs
Pioneer 305
- PAC no longer carries the Pioneer license (tech/customer support is there until....?)
- has global crossovers for all speakers

I would get the RZ30 personally if those were my choices.

I would get the RZ30 personally if those were my choices.
Like I said, they are going to be more similar than not. You won't get any appreciable increase in performance until you get to the RZ70, DRX 8.4, or 805 level of AVR.
I forgot to mention the RZ30 has pre-outs, which allows it to act as a prepro in combo w/external amps (astronomically better than a 305 on internal amps)!

Pioneer has presets, which are quite convenient to switch working modes. Downside is that it has common crossover frequency for all channels.
I have LX305, which is ok for my configuration of speakers. If I needed more flexibility, I would look at RZ30, but I would miss presets.
In my country Denon x3800h is cheaper than RZ30. I have tested Denon once and returned it back, but with current prices I think it is better deal than RZ30.
That's a unique pricing perspective! There are folks in the States who would absolutely love to get their hands on a 3800 that is cheaper than the RZ30's street price (primarily due to lowest entry to Dirac ART)!

Could be similar in France. But I see prices for x3800h are going up, still below RZ30.

New ownership seems to have jacked up the MSRP on the DENON lineup. Time will tell if that was prudent.

Denon was already hideously overpriced, so that's gotta be a ridiculous price gorge....
The RZ30 has a full set of pre-outs, and independent subwoofer channels
The pre-outs are valuable if you plan on using external power amps, and if you have two subs and plan on using DLBC then the indepent sub outputs are needed...
Otherwise they are identical

Can you confirm that the faceplate and knobs/buttons on the RZ30 are made of plastic, not metal?
No as I don't own one!
All the Onkyo's have a metal faceplate - but I am not sure of the Knobs/buttons etc..

Oh, okay -- I asked because I know you have been, in the past, a "knower of all Onkyo and Integra" things! LOL.
Didn't realize they all boast a metal faceplate; that's interesting and doable, as even my old TX-SR605 had one.

I haven't rapped my knuckle on a newer Onkyo AVR recently but my Pioneer '505' AVR has a plastic faceplate
I recall reading that Integra AVR's have a metal faceplate - with the unspoken implication that Onkyo AVR's do not have metal faceplates
but I do not know...

I think you might find that the fold down flap is plastic, but the faceplate itself is metal...
Certainly my Integra DRX3.4 had a metal faceplate (no flip down panel on the Integras)
