Onkyo Icon P‑80 + M‑80 World First Unboxing and Preview

Also now in-stock in the UK on Peter Tyson website for £1449 so hopefully might see some reviews soon.

Huge Update:

In the initial official press release for the Onkyo Icon series, Dirac Live ART was mentioned for P-80. However, in subsequent press releases and on the product page, ART was never mentioned again.

Out of curiosity, I asked about it on Onkyo USA’s Facebook and ultimately received the answer I had expected: “The Onkyo Icon P-80 is not getting Dirac Live ART.”

My thoughts now: Should I cancel mine? The big question for me, if this is true. Can I live with Dirac DLBC in the 2.2 setup, and do I really need ART for the 2.2? It will save me money, that´s one thing.

Edit: I will buy it. It is okay for me.

In this case it’s a no go for me. If I buy a new preamp-streamer thing I want to have the option to add Dirac art in the future :-/

Thanks for letting us know. Would have been a major disappointment to me

Does it really add anything of value to a stereo amplifier, over the existing Dirac live / bass packs? I'm genuinely asking, as I've never used any Dirac stuff but I thought Art's main benefit came with using multi channel setups, rather than stereo.

Sure! For a stereo setup, the best way to use ART is in a 2.2 channel system. With four speakers working together, ART can really clean up the sound in the 20–150 Hz range, making the bass tighter and the overall response more balanced. It also helps control how long different frequencies linger in the room. If you want to get a feel for how this improves the stereo listening experience, check out the demo recording in Dirac’s official article.

Dirac ART brought a significant improvement even in a 2.0 setup.
It’s a pity that Onkyo P-80 doesn’t support ART.

The P-80 was €1200.00 within Germany at Hidden Audio yesterday, so there might be deals to be made. Shipping to the Netherlands with VAT was €1259.00. My dealer in the Netherlands will probably be a bit more expensive, I guess. So be it. He has a nice store and offered me more better prices on other equipment.

bad , good product dont need rebate ..

I’m glad I had a €5000 rebate on my Kef Reference Meta speakers, as well as on all my audio equipment in the past (a lot with two setups). I never pay full retail price. There’s always room for a discount with my dealer. The AV10 which I have now also. That´s not a bad device.

(I'm not trying to be a snob, no drugs, kids, booze, or expensive vacations for us two lone wolfs. It saves money in the end)

How did you get such a significant rebate?

There is always room for debate. That discount was 25%. I could get that discount at two dealers.

(I won’t name the dealers here, respect for their business. Everyone is free to negotiate with their own.)

Today, Onkyo's dealer in Taiwan released the world first unboxing and hands-on impressions of the high-end Onkyo Icon series stereo preamp “P‑80” and power amplifier “M‑80” on Mobile01—Taiwan’s largest AV forum. The listening experience was shared using Klipsch Forte IV loudspeakers.

According to earlier reports, the P‑80—equipped with dual SUB OUTs—will be Onkyo’s first model to support Dirac Live ART.

The P‑80 and M‑80 are slated for global release by the end of 2025.
Direct queries to Onkyo asking about Dirac ART have resulted in Onkyo responding by walking back their commitment to ART...
Note this is second hand via various forum threads... but at the moment I would suggest treating any PAC (Onkyo/Integra) ART related predictions as pipe dreams....

If they are ever going to really commit to ART, now is the time, and we are all still waiting :(

I am sure users could gain from using ART and I did notice the announcement earlier. But for me It is not completely clear, what I would gain with it. I want to suppress the most low frequencies from my KEF speakers. Not leave them working with the two subs. This old guy should probably dive into ART to learn more of it.

I was interested in the Icon A-50 due to the ART feature, it's advertised as 140w @ 8ohm & 180w @ 4ohm everywhere including on Onkyo's website, but I'm put off as in the PDF manual it says the following,

North America and Japan models ■Amplifier Section Rated Output Power (North America models) With 8 ohm loads, both channels driven, from 20 Hz20 kHz; rated 110 watts per channel minimum RMS power, with no more than 0.08% total harmonic distortion from 250 milliwatts to rated output. (FTC) (Japan models) 2 ch x 100 W at 8ohms, 20-20,000Hz, 2ch driven of 0.08% THD (JEITA)

Europe models ■Amplifier Section Rated Output Power 2 ch × 110 W at 4 ohms, 1 kHz, 2 ch driven of 1% THD(IEC) THD+N (Tot

Asia and Oceania models ■Amplifier Section Rated Output Power 2 ch × 110 W at 4 ohms, 1 kHz, 2 ch driven of 1% THD(IEC)

What's the deal here?

edit -

Just catching up, will Dirac still be a feature on the A-50?
