How could anyone even think of trading in such a brilliant piece of German engineering as the RME Adi-2 DAC FS and the outstanding Bluesound Node (which model?) for such a soulless, run-of-the-mill product as the Onkyo Icon P-80 in its cheap tin casing?
I still like the RME and I will tell everybody that it's a great device, no discussion about that. Node is the N132.
But as I'm using it in my living room, I just wanted to try something simpler for the everyday use.
Also to be honest: I wasn't really in the need of something new, but I found the Onkyo and a Eversolo DMP-A8 at the same time both used for a reasonable price.
So my curiosity won, as I wanted to try out at home with the option to resell for no, or just a small loss.
But after testing now for a week I came to the conclusion, that in my system with the Klipsch Heresy III, apartment with not so high listening levels and Loudness always on, the Onkyo sounds the best out of the three.
As somebody asked for the Fidelity EQ: I'm using it permanently and love it. But I like also an a bit fuller sound. I'm not chasing measured perfection, I'm only chasing what's pleasing more my ears. And in this category the Onyko wins over the RME and the DMP-A8.
PS: I'm also really disappointed from the Eversolo, as the Loudness is only an on/off function and not as described in the manual with 4 levels.
I tried also different Firmware versions, think all starting from 1.3.20 to the actual 1.6.15 but never got the adjustable loudness feature.
And the Eversolo support is also horrible. After a week still no response to my issue about that.
I still think, that's the reason why I prefer the Onkyo over the Eversolo, as I really like the look of the Eversolo with the nice screen.
