Onkyo Icon P‑80 + M‑80 World First Unboxing and Preview

I don't know if it matters but Onkyo told me specifically not to put the M-80 on top of the P-80. The P-80 always goes on top. Not sure if it's because of the heat the M-80 gives off or of the P-80 needs the airflow. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
Interesting. When I had M-80 I had it set just like you said, but with my current setup I put the amp on top. I don't see any negative impact honestly, but I will measure the temps once I have a longer session. I am not too worried about it though, M-80 is class AB and Hypex Nilai is D. It doesn't really get that hot.

True of any pre-power, if you're going to stack them always put the power amp on top.
What he said is other way around. M-80 is power amp and P-80 is pre-amp. Onkyo put pre-amp on top on every promotional picture. But my intuition tells me otherwise to be honest, I want more airflow for amp...

That always catches me out, 'P' for power except in Onkyo-world. :)

Maybe they made the same mistake, seems unlikely the pre runs hotter than the power?

Just so onkyo has made a network receiver with room correction priced above the Onkyo Icon A-50

Biggest difference between Onkyo Icon A-50 ands Onkyo Muse Y-50 beside one is class d and the other is a/b ?

A 50 has no dedicated sub out and it didn't support dirac bass control.
Y-50 has sub out so it might help to get the bass right, the question is only how good the proprietary room correction will be.

But why more expensive than the class a/b Icon a-50 ?

New firmware for P-80 was released today. Let's see if that fixes the connectivity issues.

The 15 April 2026 update will address the following:
1. Wi-Fi connectivity and performance have been refined for a more seamless experience.
2. Network streaming reliability, including AirPlay and Spotify, has been enhanced.

Edit: my first impressions are positive. I switched between tidal and YouTube music few times, I went much smoother. So far it looks good but I'll need few days to really say it is now better.

Looking to get the Onkyo A-50 and hope everthing will be totally updatet and fixed then, anybody here with any impressions on the A-50 model.

Got my P-80 and M-80 on Wednesday. So far love it. Sounds amazing. Works flawlessly.

Setting up the Wi-Fi was a pain in the ass though. It seems like the card is not turned on at the factory or something. Easiest way to do it is plug it into your router then turn it on from your computer. Works perfectly after that.

Also this thing seems to drive my BMR towers and sub way harder for some reason. Going to have to turn my sub down for the first time.

I can now confirm after couple days of testing and trying to break it - the major issues with connectivity seems to be resolved. Sometimes it take few seconds for first second to kick in, but switching between apps and phones and so on works without issues now. Earlier I would have to do a hard restart as some apps wouldn't start, since the update the issue is gone.

Figured out why it seemed to bass heavy. It had some Fidelity IQ on low. Seems to emphasize the low end.

Use room correction with a good mic, the biggest svs tower series sound soo good with the amp and 2x4 sub or bass you don't need a subwoofer
