Some say Pioneer switched to a Burr-Brown chip, similar to the one in the Onkyo C-7030, in recent production. Is this true?
I can't say for sure. My C-7030 uses a Wolfson DAC, but I read that later production runs used an AKM DAC just like the Pioneer unit.

I have Pro-ject CD E Box, and it outperforms the Onkyo c-7030, Shanling et3, and Marantz easily.
It sounds like a turntable.
It's the best purchase I've ever made.

and after that they used the (BB) TI PCM1753 as seen on this review, just like they do now in the "new" c-30...

It does have a nice, compact design, but personally, I don't trust slot-loading drives (rubber wheels that pull the CDs in…).

I haven't heard it, and I know the sound is a matter of taste, but I had a look at the specs... they look terrible for a modern player, even worse than the very first 14bit players! Noisefloor -85db separation 65db, distortion 0,04%...all way below CD standards...probably that is why it sounds like a turntable! Curious if it decodes pre-emphasis and if it plays gapless!

Yes. After listening again the Shanling et3 is far better. This project player they make soft sounding just to sound like turntable in fake way.

Yes, it's probably a choice of theirs, since their company has always been about analog turntables...perhaps they want to sell CD players that follow the taste of analog purists...

Well, they should have gone for full authenticity and added pops, rumble, wow and flutter. Customers might pay twice as much for that, plus they'd save money buying CDs instead of luxury vinyl. ;)

Yes. I used to love vinyls and turntables, but now I have found CDs are more practical and have sound quality that can outperform vinyl.
I'm looking now for a used Unison Research CD Player in good condition; I really like their industrial design.

Kind regards

I bought this CD player new in 2017 for around $150-170. I've only ever used the analog output and still have no complaints.
