Left, year-old HEPA filter; right, brand-new filter. Old filter weighs 4 grams more.

And I regularly vacuum the washable mesh pre-filter: At a quick glance, it looked alright since the last time I gave it a good washing, which was about six months ago. But when I removed it and took a closer look today, I saw that it was visibly brown and faintly furry, so I hand-washed it with dish soap, and that got it about 80% whiter.

Most noticeable change to my space (~400 sq feet / 35 sq M): Almost no odor at all, using the standard Fresh Start filter combo. Seems to clear up cooking odors and return to idling quicker if I turn the ion generator on

What didn't change as much as I'd have liked: I still sneeze, and get itchy eyes in the springtime. Coway offers a filter pack specifically for allergies, and I think I'll try alternating the allergy and standard or smoke filters, depending on the time of year.

I'm pretty happy with the unit: I have it running nonstop most days, and it's generally quiet enough to be unobtrusive even in a quiet apartment, though it's definitely audible at full speed, and will occasionally ramp up for no obvious reason.

Interesting. I got a Coway Airmega for fire season when air quality gets ******, don't use it otherwise. Haven't looked at the filter altho have a spare on hand. When I got it we were having high AQI readings outside (and inside) and used it somewhat but largely have been lucky with local fires/smoke since and haven't turned it on in a while. Guess I'll have to take out the filter and compare now :)

I have 3 coway and 3 blue air filters in my house, I live in the city near some busy streets and I have a young kid at home, so I figure I should err on the side of caution.

My filters look similar when I change them.

I think when you have enough filtration going you really don't need to dust as often. I honestly think we could go 6-12 months before things got too dusty.
