Hi folks.

Thinking about a 2.1 setup in our living room. Want to try on wall Speakers. The room is not that big, 23 square meters. My choices is

Dali Sonik On Wall

Monitor Audio Bronze On Wall 7G

Fyne F5E LCR

or used ones like

Elac WS line, mostly 1665

Lyngdorfs FR-1

Dali Opticon LCR

Many choices. Would be great with some inputs.

Thanks

How about in wall speakers? It solves a lot of problems and looks good (relatively).

Ok thanks. Can you tell me more about why?
MTM speakers have heavy woofer cancellation off-axis, so should be aimed directly at the listener which isn't really possible with on-wall.

Definitely no MTM design like the Fyne, Lyngdorf or Elac.
MTM set vertically has better spatial characteristics than typical 2 drivers solution. Is there any problem with on wall version?
Looks like Fyne and Lyngdorf arent MTM. Fyne is concentric and Lyngdorf is 2 ways with passive driver (not sure how it is called in English).

Better in what way?

A vertical MTM will perform on par with a 2-way in horizontal directivity and have that woofer cancellation in the vertical directivity.

It has symmetric vertical characteristic at crossover frequency, while 2 drivers don't. Cancelation in vertical position is positive, since it deals with floor and ceiling reflections.

It hardly "deals with" the reflections as the response is so uncontrolled:

In a highly treated listening space this might not be so bad as the bounce could be well absorbed, but in a typical living room all you'll get is a colored total response as the poor bounce response is reflected in full.

Have you similar characteristics for 2 drivers speaker? Would be interesting to compare.

Edit: I have looked at some Amir's measurements. You are right, that reflections aren't smooth. But then are lower than with 2 drivers.

They will be placed roughly 1,7 feet from side walls and next to the TV, and the distance between them will be 6,3 feet

The Ascilab F6B/S is exceptional and has vesa mounts at the back so it can be mounted super tidily, I myself am running a 2.1 setup with them and its by far the best hifi system ive heard - renting my current space but will be moving soon and wall mounting as soon as I do :)

Acoustic Energy have a weird thing about placing. They want the speakers to be placed so that your ears are 1,6 feet under the tweeter, that's high

Here's the Ascilab I mentioned above:

Ok great inputs. They seem to be hard to find in Europe to. I live in Sweden...

I think this is more specific to the speaker, than the design principle. If I go through spinorama.org, and look at Floor and Ceiling bounce, it’s really all over the place, even for a simple 2-way.

Even tough, I would not trust most MTMs. Most are designed incorrectly with a way too high crossover point. But there are some exceptions for sure: AsciLab C8C seems to be quite excellent, for instance.

I’m not sure where you heard that but it sounds like nonsense to me.

A vertical MTM isn't an issue for an on-wall (or in-wall), unless you're limited to placing them quite high or low relative to the listening position. I'd typically consider a 2-way with a single smaller woofer to be insufficient for living room duty, but of course that depends very much on the space, how far away the listening position is, and your listening habits.
