What does 'you are there' mean when the track is entirely composed of pan-potted stems recorded/assembled in a studio, sometimes directly into a board with no actual 'acoustics' involved?
It’s still the same thing - whether the recorded space has been made totally artificially, and sounds artificial, or whether we are talking about an “audiophile” recording meant to re-create the sensation of real sounds in real space.
So for instance, electronic music takes up a large section of my music diet. Obviously these are completely artificial constructs.
And yet they still most often have created a certain sense of space or reverb or ambiance.
A “they are here” effect would produce more prominent “ the electronic instruments/sounds have come into the acoustics of my small room that are playing for me in my small room” effect.
The “ I am there” effect feels more like my room beyond on the speakers is taking on the spatial and reverb characteristics of the recording. One might like it more to the experience of wearing headphones in terms of a sense of immersion into the artificially constructed recorded space. (though I’m not a fan of headphones, since I prefer the sound staging and imaging from loudspeakers in front of me as well as the more tactile experience from loudspeakers).
