omnidirectional loudspeakers = best design available

What does 'you are there' mean when the track is entirely composed of pan-potted stems recorded/assembled in a studio, sometimes directly into a board with no actual 'acoustics' involved?

It’s still the same thing - whether the recorded space has been made totally artificially, and sounds artificial, or whether we are talking about an “audiophile” recording meant to re-create the sensation of real sounds in real space.

So for instance, electronic music takes up a large section of my music diet. Obviously these are completely artificial constructs.
And yet they still most often have created a certain sense of space or reverb or ambiance.

A “they are here” effect would produce more prominent “ the electronic instruments/sounds have come into the acoustics of my small room that are playing for me in my small room” effect.

The “ I am there” effect feels more like my room beyond on the speakers is taking on the spatial and reverb characteristics of the recording. One might like it more to the experience of wearing headphones in terms of a sense of immersion into the artificially constructed recorded space. (though I’m not a fan of headphones, since I prefer the sound staging and imaging from loudspeakers in front of me as well as the more tactile experience from loudspeakers).

As visible in the background of the Detectives home in the "Bosch" series....

However as shown (the detective is supposed to be an audiophile) - they are located in probably a worst case setup - directly next to wall to wall panoramic glass windows - effectively the reflected sound from the glass windows would completely destroy imaging......

But the presence of the "odd" looking speaker enhances the cred of the character as an audiophile.... (at least for the ignorant!)
If the widows were arranged in a semi-circle, that might make for an interestingly muddled soundstage (r maybe not). Having never owned any omni's, someone else will have to test that out for us.

Do you have small speakers? ...
The first step is to place them with the drivers facing up.

That will most likely not lead to an any satisfactory tonality, not to speak of typical omni imaging, as most of speakers are not optimized to sound linear under what is with usual placement a 90deg angle. In contrary, you might hear very strange things, lack of upper treble or upper midrange, for example. I would absolutely not recommend this.

If you want to have a rough understanding about typical omni reverb, you might want to toe-out usual speakers away from the listener, pointing directly to the corners of the room. This is not particularly the same thing as an omni, but tells us something about the reverb pattern in the room, similar to the indirect fraction of the sound produced by an omni. If you have 4 more or less identical speakers, you can try to point 2 to the listener and 2 to the corners. That is closer to an omni pattern.

I have the DCM TF600 (got them for $60 over 8 years ago). They have always been relegated to my vintage receivers, most recently the Sony STR 6055. But I am selling my Dahlquist DQM 9 (with stands tonight). I am going to connect them to my Musical Fidelity A308 (taking over for the DQM 9) and see what they sound like with a higher end source.

Well I hooked them up after selling the Dahlquists and they sound pretty amazing to me so far. I have them about 15" from the rear wall, 10 feet apart and 10 feet from where I sit. The kick drum from the songs on the Tom Petty Greatest Hits cd (did not have to time to try anything else) sounded pretty amazing (especially since I only paid $60 for these about 8 years ago). I imagine the Musical Fidelity also helps.

Do you have small speakers? They don't have necessarily to be coaxial or full-range.

The only speakers that I have smaller than my 40 Lb.+ DQ M-905's are Radio Shack wood veneer Minimus 7's. I would venture to say that they are not suitable.
