Obsessive Compulsive Audiophile "OCA" Corrections - Categorization Tools Assistance

I agree with you Logan, checking the OCA YouTube channel I see many different tools, but it's not easy to find if they are evolutions (so one replaces the previous one), or if they are intended for different goals or equipments.
At this moment I see:
I think it would be good to have a short description for every one of them, and if it was superceeded by another one.
Perhaps, @OCA could add these details to the YouTube channel description, and update it with every new tool.

Thank you.
I've been directed here by other ASR members, and I knew nothing about @OCA a couple hours ago.
I have checked his YouTube channel, and he just said this on YouTube 2 months ago:

So apparently Neuron which seemed to be the Holy Grail barely one year ago according to the YouTube video, and which was updated in April of this year, is no longer maintained now. Now OCA suggests to "try Acoustica or Evo Express", without any further explanation.

With some more research, and unless I missed something, Evo Express seems the way to go right now. Unless it's replaced too in the future. Which it probably will, if the future's anything like the past. :p

It’s true there have been many versions, but the evolution was inevitable. User requested features, improved DSP techniques, REW’s ongoing advancements, and a deeper grasp of D&M hardware all contributed to continual updates. That said, A1 Evo Express was supposed to be the endgame… until Dirac dropped ART recently and annoyed me enough that I have no choice but to return with a vengeance :p

Oh boy, the quest goes on and on. I'll keep glued to my seat in anticipation with my potty pot close, waiting for whatever crazy stuff you might come up with. :p

For the record I'm currently leaning towards a Denon 3800 (with a nice 5.1 or 5.1.2 system to go with it), and until a couple hours ago I was happy to try the standard auto calibration process, for lack of anything better. Why did someone have to direct me here and tempt me with this devilish thing?

Just one thing @OCA . I liked your Neuron video very much, because it was mostly clear for DRC beginners like me. The "Mastering DRC" video on the other hand was incomprehensible  Bottom line: if you ever make a video for your upcoming stuff, would you please start from the absolute beginning? Something like "So you have your new amp, and you haven't used it yet: no auto calibration, no measurements, no nothing. Press the ON button and..." :p Thanks! ;)

Looking forward to your return shot. ;)

What's the best method to get support for my installation? I'm having some issues, so do I ask my questions here or on some other site? I'm still working on my problem, but I just want to know where to ask for assistance if it gets to that. Thanks.

Hi

A few things.. @OCA will correct me if I am wrong.
  • I prefer Acoustica , it is at this moment, more flexible than Evo Express.
  • With either Acoustica and Express, as is, bass was overblown in my system. I believe @OCA suggests to "dial back" the subwoofer level by 10 dB.. more on this later . I still had some issues with the bass being too "ripe" , even with the subwoofer dialed back -10 dB ... @OCA suggested to work on the "Subwoofer target curve infill"
  • 1763720369108.png
parameter on the "Advanced Settings" with the warning ... The increments are 0.5 dB ... My best is at -1.5 dB for my system...
  • c) You may encounter an issue with some models when it comes to reducing the LFE/subwoofer level. In my particular Denon, the AVR-X3400H, old but good AVR. I tend to use the Denon App , when you go to "Options" you are presented with a screen that allows you to change the "Subwoofer Level". See it here:

  • If you have multiple subs, at least on the AVR -X3400H, only ONE subwoofer is affected! (not the others) This screws up the entire optimization. Let me clear on this .. and Not subtly. You need to go directly to the remote control, and verify on a screen or the AVR display, that each subwoofers levels are modified by the (same) amount you want/need.

Then, recall your favorites audiophile clichés. You may also need a new complement of suitable expletives... because , I apologize for the constant barrage of hyperbole ... you are in a for a Treat.
As for me ... I have to force myself to go to bed. I am re-listening to all favorites and, the wife ... even from the kitchen:facepalm: ... can tell this is a "night and day" difference .. and the soundstage, now galactic wide, emerges from a cosmic dark background ... from which an organically coherent sound pours its harmonic integrity, over a bed of vanishingly low noise floor ...
:p

Are you sure you have switched off Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume? That is what OCA suggests. Then I dialed back the sub a few dB, but that is mostly because I live in an apartment building. I use Express by the way.

I just checked , they are both off, besides Acoustica or Evo Express take of these parameters by itself. These are turned off, in my AVR once Acoustica or Evo Express are run, the parameter "subwoofer level" in the Audio subsection of the Denon menu is turned off as well, by Acoustica and by Evo Express, on my AVR,... both scripts referred to my AVR as "old" :( Keep in mind that LFE is boosted 10 dB as per THX standard so for music, it must be reduced to a more sane level... at the moment my system is run in 2-ch/music, wile waiting for the projector lamp.
... I am elated, not merely "satisfied".

What is your receiver model? I've quite recently (fixed just a few days ago) found a bug in Express while working on AcoustiX which caused +6dB louder bass response effecting ONLY older XT32 models with dual subs. If that's your case, just download the updated version.

Humm ? I do find it strange that the automated default curve would set bass 10db too hot? I imagine adjusting it down is pretty easy but still ???

That's a Dolby standard. LFE track is 10dB louder. If you measure your sub with REW, you can see that easily. Actually REW even has a sub channel specific LFE-10dB sweep setting.

AVR-X3400H..
I use Acoustica not Evo Express ... And I am waiting for your next product. PM coming up.

I knew it was in the spec but never seen it actually in effect to that extent.

While looking for a receiver to give my son, I stumbled upon this amazing app, thanks OCA!

It's compatible with all versions of Audissey. A Marantz 70 is ideal for his needs, but it was ruled out because of its Audissey version. If it were compatible, I'd change everything.

Marantz 70S is compatible with A1 Evo. All models covered with MultEQ Editor app are also covered by it. However, it has only basic MultEQ and cannot apply filters to speakers below 250Hz. I would suggest going for a model with at least MultEQ XT!

I upgraded to an x3800h for that reason, and now with their app... I can't wait to try it.
I think their work is incredible.

By the way, can somebody explain to me why filters for MultiEQ XT cannot apply filters below 90 Hz and basic MultiEQ not below 250 Hz? Does this only apply to the speakers, not to the sub? When I do a standard Audyssey calibration with my MultiEQ XT receiver (X2600H) it seems to measure and correct all frequencies. Also, in my MSL, the roommodes seem to be tamed quite well both by the OCA calibration and the standard Audyssey. The result is very audible when I just stand up and even more when I walk around.

Hello again, I understand you have responded to this topic in other posts but I hope you don't mind clarifying this one more time here on your own thread.:) My question is, in this post, it seems to be clear that MultEQ, or even Mult EQ XT could be a limiting factor and my understanding from your A1 Evo EX YT video is that it would use REW to create the filter and then Evo Ex would send the ady file to the AVR/AVP, so if that's case, since Audyssey supposedly use FIR filters only, does it mean the AVR would use the data in the ady file to "create" its own FIR filters?

If yes, then does it mean when A1 Evo Ex create the ady file, it would convert the REW filters (presumably IIR type) to something that allows the Denon, Marantz devices to create the final FIR filters? Sorry to bother you on this again, and I hope you understand my question, I find it confusing myself lol..
