Measurements for the Numark M2 Mixer, taken from my Topping E2X2 OTG.
Quick note on methods:
Thoughts:
Line Input Frequency Response
Line Input Distortion, -6dBFS Signal
Line Input, -12dBFS Signal
Phono Input, Raw Response (-50dBFS Signal into Phono Input)
Phono Input Frequency Response after RIAA Equalization
Phono Input Distortion
Quick note on methods:
- Measurements taken from the TRS Output of the Topping interface into the Line and Phono inputs of the Numark and out the Master. Only Ch. 1's Left I/O were tested.
- M2's Channel and Master gain set to half, EQ flat, and tested with volume fader at top three notches (0dB, -1.8dB, and -5.6dB, respectively). Not much difference in terms of distortion, so didn't include these. Distortion rises accordingly with level.
- The Topping's TRS outputs have high levels of distortion with pre-amp set to max, so these were taken with the preamp knob at 3 o'clock (around -1.5dB), which fixes the issue.
- The Topping has its own low-level second harmonic distortion (sits between -85-90dB and pretty flat across the spectrum). MDAT with the reference is too large to upload, drop a line if you'd like it.
- Numark is fresh from the box
Thoughts:
- Far from ideal, but not too bad for its use-case.
- Distortion sits under 1%
- Line-input frequency response is less than idea, but can corrected with a few quick PEQ filters if running digital and recording
- Phono-input frequency response even better (but this doesn't account for actual cartridge-preamp interactions. Unsure about how to measure this with existing equipment, or if possible)
- Phono EQ Correction for those recording (The first two would be enough)
- Filter 1: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain 0.9 dB Q 3.400
- Filter 2: ON PK Fc 21 Hz Gain 2.0 dB Q 0.600
- Filter 3: ON PK Fc 150 Hz Gain 0.2 dB Q 2.000
- Filter 4: ON PK Fc 10000 Hz Gain -0.3 dB Q 0.500
- Phono EQ Correction for those recording (The first two would be enough)
