Due to moving to a smaller house I will need to sell my large horn based custom TAD speakers. These are actively tri-amped speakers which feature a reasonably neutral reproduction for this type of design and a nearly unlimited dynamic range. No spinorama is available, but while that isn't their strong suit, they have fairly controlled horizontal dispersion and image very well.

The speakers are based on the 4" Be diaphrgamed TD-4003 driver from the TAD 2404 studio monitors which is a more advanced design that the original TD-4001 that made TAD famous. During the developemeant of the TD-4003 driver, TAD designed a unique horn especially to work with it and the on axis response is extremely linear, see plot below. These speakers have a custom mineral filled cast urethane clone of the original maple plywood TH-4003 horn. These horns have a very tight pattern control and an asymmetrical vertical output to better control first reflections.

While the TD-4003/TH-4403 combo is capable of HF output to 18kHz or beyond, in these speakers I added the beryllium TAD ET-703 super tweeter with a passive third order crossover at 12kHz.

Below the mid horn is the alnico and treated paper 11" TAD TL-1102 woofer. TAD used this woofer in their 2251 monitors and below that is the JBL built 15" woofer originally developed for the Revel Ultima SUB-15.

I have been using this system with a Pass Labs analog XVR-1 active three-way crossover which is available or you could use a modern DSP based crossover and add time and phase correction to the speakers. The active crossover frequencies are 75Hz and 750Hz. In addition to the Pass Labs crossover I used a Pass Labs XA-25 amp for the HF section, a pair of Parasound JC-1 amps for the 11" midbass drivers, and a QSC built 600wpc JBL branded PA amp on the 15" woofers.

While I would prefer to sell the entire system to someone, if there are no takers for for this $20K plus collection of goodies, then no reasonable offer will be refused on any of the parts or pieces of electronics.

Here are photos and details for your amusement.

The cabinets are made of laminated 3/4" birch plywood and 3/4" MDF for stiffness and damping. There is also massive internal bracing. The curved side panels are machined from a stack of 4 sheets of 3/4" MDF. Needless to say the cabinets are extremely heavy but this makes them reasonably free from resonances.

The plot below is a gated measurement on axis of the TD-4003/TH-4003 comparing the cast resin horn to the original maple plywood horn produced by TAD. This shows the reasonably close match and shows how linear the the on-axis performance is.

The photo below shows the rack of equipment including a DSP which is on the 15" LF driver and provides the needed compensation for the woofer when used in a relatively small sealed enclosure as Revel used it originally.

Beautiful!!! I hope you find someone who gives those beauties a new home.....

Thank you.
I have all of the original packaging and can sell off the parts if I have to, but yes, my hope is to keep them intact and sell them to someone who will enjoy them as they are.

I know I will miss them. In the right room, they are quite stunning.

They are really beautiful and I can imagine how well they fill a room. Love the big box sound (mine are about same size).

Thanks, the selling price was very fair for what was included.
Both the buyer and seller were happy.
