This could work well as ambient music. Not that it does not work as foreground listening. It's not fair to play on emotion, but what is music but narrative? Japanese composers have a style. It is pretty, but not excessively so.
One was Ryuichi Sakamoto. I have friends who were close with him, and one passed away untimely in 2022. So just a contribution and take this contribution out of competition.
As he was terminally ill he recorded a solo piano movie concert filmed by his son at NHK Studios. He recorded it over 8 days in 2022, died in 2023 and the recording was released in 2024, Grammy nominated. Very clean recording and the black and white film is worth a watch for lovers of original piano music. There are a lot of microphones in there and I wonder how it was mixed.

I have a feeling you might like the work of Hania Rani, if you have not already heard of her.
And then Keith Jarrett's Sun Bear Concerts are my go to ambient music (for reading, especially) ...
And of course there is Erik Satie. Jean-Yves Thibaudet recorded 5 full CDs of Satie, but
for the core Satie music, nothing tops Reinbert de Leeuw.
