I just tested it, both scenarios work like a charm. Preamp2 (Model: Classé Audio six) doesn't have a power on/off button, the only way to power it off is to unplug it.That's a good solution.
And you can power off preamp 2. It won't sound better, this is a myth. Especially if it gets hot inside leaving it on 24/7 will reduce its lifetime.
