[No Politics] What you need to know about CoVID-19 by SARS-CoV-2 [No Politics]

Excess/uncounted Covid-19 deaths in the U.S.? Even Fox News is reporting on this:

"Excess P&I deaths provide a conservative estimate of COVID-19 burden and indicate that COVID-19-related deaths are missed in locations with inadequate testing or intense pandemic activity," the researchers wrote.

According to an investigation from the Washington Post and Yale University, there were 15,4000 "excess deaths" from March 1 to April 4. By that date, just 8,128 deaths were linked to COVID-19

Tell that to smallpox.

I'd question the analogy. Smallpox has a far wider range of morbidity, rather than being principally a threat to fairly well-defined populations (in the case of Wuhan, principally older people and people with specific co-morbidities).

It was somewhat tongue in cheek, but was to show that if we get determined enough, we can eradicate a virus. I don't know if our technology is good enough now (or ever) for this particular virus, but I believe it can be controlled.

I thought statement was bipartisan. I guess we need to stick to 21st century "science."

Last I looked the 2nd amendment was bipartisan, I got into horrible trouble with my family when I joked about carrying a loaded Glock to enforce masks and personal distancing when things open up.

While some folks are enthusiastically opening up, sitting here in Illinois our rates have not budged. Cases have doubled in the past 14 days, with steady exponential growth. And before you throw doubt on the case rates, fatalities have grown faster. My section of the Chicago area is by no means the worst hit (and is medium density at best), nevertheless, as of today we have 5,750 cases/m (more than Spain). The larger town to the west of us has 11,410 cases/m.

I am hoping this will lead to a 'rash' of innovation, that ends up protecting us against more than just Corona.

It's also a huge question mark as to when/whether there will be an effective vaccine, so this type of innovation is most welcome.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...an-protect-surfaces-for-90-days-idUSKCN2290S5

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Researchers at a Hong Kong university say they have developed an antiviral coating which could provide 90 days of “significant” protection against bacteria and viruses such as the one causing COVID-19.

The coating, called MAP-1, took 10 years to develop and can be sprayed on surfaces that are frequently used by the public, such as elevator buttons and handrails, researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) say.

I know what they mean, what I'm trying to say is what makes a theory a theory, is that they must be logically refutable, but it hasn't been. That's why I brought in the law. The theory and conclusions can be limited by knowledge at the time, or even by time itself. So yes in long run, it's just a theory.

Meaning if we're to put things into that perspective / time span, nothing is really conclusive and definite, ie we can do nothing / nothing we can do, except waiting for the most definite things that happens to everyone in the end, just for more data, to prove and confirm the hypothesis

Your post tells me that you don't know what they mean.

What happened in 2019 will need to lead to innovations. It's going to happen again for sure. Humans consume more and more animals every year that passes, as long as we continue to manufacture and harvest animals and consume bushmeat, another outbreak of equal or even larger proportions is almost a certainty.

Vegans have been infected by pathogens many times

Vegans have been infected by pathogens many times

Indeed - although vegans share no guilt in the initial problem of a zoonotic disease such as Covid-19 jumping from animals to humans, they can contribute to its spread once it makes that jump and becomes a human disease.

Missed Steak.jpg

Actually, I've missed a lot of steaks, because I eat a mostly vegetarian diet with some local eggs, cheese, chicken plus seafood from the Golfo de Chiriqui. I am a dictionary-definition "semi-vegetarian."

If you look at only science and not "vegetarian propaganda," humans are biological omnivores. The consumption of animal flesh, plus the role of cooking of not only meat, but also nutrient-dense vegetables, played an important role in the evolution of the human brain.

We humans, as a species, have a long way to go before we are truly "civilized" with respect to our treatment of each other - and animals.

Bush meat - including bats - are not necessary in the modern world. With careful attention to detail, a purely vegetarian diet works, but overlooking small details to provide some of the things that animal flesh provides can lead to serious developmental problems and functional disabilities due to nutrient deficiencies.

Eliminating bush meat appears to be much more important to the "health" of human civilization than a total conversion to vegetarianism or veganism. The latter lifestyle is based on a moral and ethical philosophy, and not biological determinism. However, from a perspective of sustainability and carrying capacity, veganism and/or vegetarianism can contribute to reducing the global human ecological footprint.

No, I mean vegans have gotten pathogens from eating salads, etc. that were contaminated.

So has everyone else, my wife, definitely a carnivore, was hospitalized (listeria) from raspberries at a conference lunch.

If you have seen the news about the active ingredient in Pepcid antacid being tested in clinical trials here is an explanation by Dr. Seheult in the ongoing MedCram series on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Tell that to smallpox.
Yes. Smallpox terrified for centuries. I have the vaccine scar on my left shoulder. I don't recall the time outs during the Revolutionary War. Did not Washington have smallpox scars? I think many are trying to justify the overreaction. Previous generations did not react this way. Over information and over reaction shall be judged harshly. Even by current apologists.

I could make a tedious response to correct some of the misconceptions in your posts but what's the point?
No doubt you would continue to believe the misconceptions are mine, and I already posted a serious analysis.
So instead I propose a more fun option! "put your money where your mouth is" bet!
Your first post was in response to eradication in New Zealand.
What odds will you offer on this and for how much?
If it's "sci-fi" then it must be very implausible, will you take a bet at 1000-1 say or 100-1?
What amount are you prepared to bet at 10-1?
The bet will be that New Zealand achieves eradication by the end of June.
No new cases within NZ for 2 weeks.
Cases from people infected overseas that are detected at the border don't count unless they spread the disease in NZ.
(Can't blame NZ for infections by other countries)
I will take side bets from others too!
Amir or Thomas to act as referees, unless it breaks a law in the US or UK.
In which case I expect that someone else can be found.

Maybe I can do this and make money from audiophile believers too.
Why try to educate people when you can exploit them?
Oh wait, that's what the tweek cable salesmen do!
Somehow a bet feels more honest.

Best wishes
David
Response is tedious. Don't become an options or day trader. You need to stick to the Casinos. I am not sure if the slot machines or blackjack side bets would work best. Please post a serious "analysis" of the Casino contango for my entertainment.

Don't contract smallpox. There is still no specific treatment for it.

Because of past widespread vaccinations, contraction is rare in most countries and vaccines are available for travellers to the few areas with some infection risk.
