I'm sure their geography helps. Is there a Kiwi here who can explain NZ’s apparent success? My reading is they locked down similarly to many other places, but enforced compliance better. What’s the full story?

How so?I'm sure their geography helps.
No boarders , split in two low population density... Housing tends to be more spread out .How so?
Not too sure. Auckland is over 1.5 million people and 1,300/km density, the same as my area which has been heavily infected. It’s neither warm nor especially sunny. An island like many other infected places. Lockdown was 2 days before Illinois. Here’s an interesting factoid: only 16% of kiwis say they attend church. Maybe they adhered to the lockdown better? Few prisoners in jails? Kept it out of nursing homes? There must be an epidemiological explanation. No boarders , split in two low population density... Housing tends to be more spread out .
I'm sure missed something.
Apple's to oranges , very little to be gained from comparing nations like this imo
Swiss Propaganda (Research), the site for the conspiracy theorist ... or shall we call it alternative facts?
By the way, today was the first day, in Spain, that children under the age of fourteen (not included) could go for an hour's walk accompanied by an adult. After 43 days at home.

Given what has been seen insome bigmany Spanish cities and towns, a spike in infections is expected within two weeks. What has been said, mediocre societies elect also mediocre representatives.

Very difficult to draw any conclusions at this point . Too many variables.
Sure, I’m trying to identify the main variables. Most of the US map is pretty explainable on a cases/million basis.Umm, consider this , pretend they are different countries.

Well recycling garbage is all the rage these days .But we don't know the cases part of cases/million. So it's a garbage number.
UV may be efficacious.
Another variable may be the heat. It seems to me that if it's 95 degrees out there on the beach, that would really put the hurt on the virus, in addition to UV on a sunny day. But I doubt it's that hot right now on the beaches in Southern California. People love the San Diego area because of how nice it is even in the summer. The problem is that while UV likely limits the distance the virus can travel (i.e. maybe 3 ft. social distancing is adequate vs. 6 ft.) there appears to be enough spread in close conditions in warmer countries that Summer doesn't appear to be a cure all. The thing to look at is 14 days form now to see if California coastal areas see an uptick in infections.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Southern California will see slightly cooler temperatures on Sunday as the heat wave weakens, but still leave plenty of sunshine and warm weather.
Los Angeles and Orange counties will see mostly clear skies on Sunday but some partial clouds with a high of 88 degrees.
The valleys and Inland Empire will have similar conditions with clear skies on Sunday with a high of 89 degrees.
An Excessive Heat Warning will remain in effect until Sunday at 6 p.m. for the desert areas as temperatures there average 100-105 degrees.
