[No Politics] What you need to know about CoVID-19 by SARS-CoV-2 [No Politics]

Would seem to me using the most up to date evidence is always preferable.

And the most definitive analysis will occur after the pandemic has well and truly dissipated.

Meanwhile we are drowning in uninformed opinion, speculation and official contradictions.

So now we just have a Mess with members arguing over what constitutes ' political ' .

I noticed a huge amount of content in the old thread has no obvious political undertones. Just a few can't manage to maintain that. So if the majority can but a minority can't I'd suggest that would indicate it's possible!

I shut the last thread , really opening a new one is not on .

A definition of madness, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. You have 24h , any slight hint this is turning political and it will be shut and there will not be a new one !

A tip , if you can't separate the op from politically charged postings don't contribute! Don't spoil it for those that can .

Thank you Thomas, much appreciated :)

I think what is important is that the up to date data is continually added to the model such that any error in its predicted outcome iterates towards zero.
Political "intererence" can be ignored when keeping up with what is going on, IMHO, simply by not considering the reasons for political decisions but studying as much factual data as one can get.
The French study was clearly a poor one - a bit like somebody inventing a test to prove one can hear the difference between cables - but the statistical models should get better and better at predicting the overall outcome.
That is what I hope will develop in this thread, personally.

I have already made the purchase. Tomorrow the cake to celebrate Easter Monday.

I am getting more and more thorough when it comes to cleaning. Since yesterday it is recommended to clean the phone and glasses with alcohol. For many years we have used cleaning alcohol for glasses; I have not taken the phone. The card only by contact, alcohol when I get home

The sole of the shoes, the same to go to the street, sprayed with bleach + water as spray. Every morning they disinfect the streets.

The number of times I have washed my hands and gloves! With soap, bleach and after hydrogel in the store. On the way back bleach in gloves, keys, food, the shopping bag ... bleach in the gloves before taking off my mask, again with bleach gloves. Hands with soap and then the face.

And that I only go out to buy, on foot. It is also recommended to avoid public transportation, which I suppose will allow few travelers. Masks will be distributed to those who use it next week. And in a few days masks will also be sold in all pharmacies.

In short, this situation is going to last a long time. First the productive economy moving again and not just the essential one.

This is why when I'm out running I leave a good distance when I run round people, crossing the street long before I get to them.

Most don't .

You may be running into someone else's lingering aerosol spray.

Normal distancing recommendations are for stationary individuals.

Deaths in New York City Are More Than Double the Usual Total

[ The recent numbers are most likely an undercount. Even in normal times, death certificates take time to be processed and collected, and complete death tallies can take weeks to become final. This is especially true for cases involving coronavirus. “Covid deaths all have to be manually coded,” said Bob Anderson, chief of the mortality statistics branch at the C.D.C.’s National Center for Health Statistics, adding that death counts from New York City typically lag actual deaths by 10 or 11 days.

But even if the current count is perfect, roughly 9,780 people have died of all causes over the past month in New York City, about 5,000 more than is typical.

The numbers for the last two weeks of the period are even more stark: nearly 7,000 dead, more than three times as many deaths as would normally be expected this time of year... ]

Unclaimed remains of coronavirus victims in New York City being buried in potter's field.
Normally, about 25 bodies a week are interred on the island, mostly for people whose families can't afford a funeral or who go unclaimed by relatives. In recent days, though, burial operations have increased from one day a week to five days a week, with around 24 burials each day. The people burying the dead are prisoners from a penitentiary and they earn $6.00/hour.

The priest has printed a hundred photographs that parishioners have sent him and has placed them on benches and on a mural.

Ministry of Health [Spain] recommendations so that the covid-19 does not enter the house

Ministerio de Sanidad - Recomendaciones covid-19 no entre en casa.png

What do I have to do when I go home?
Away from home try not to touch surfaces
Proper cleaning is more effective than wearing gloves
If you use a car, clean it frequently

Take off your shoes and leave them at the door
Wash your hands
Leave items you don't need in a box at the entrance
Disinfect your mobile or glasses
Separate the clothes in a bag, without shaking it.

I had never tied this together. It will be interesting to see if new construction trends towards more wash-stations near entrances and bidets..

...But home design in general — and bathroom design in particular — has long been influenced by infectious disease. This isn’t a linear narrative with clear causation, but rather a convergence of advancements in science, infrastructure, plumbing, sanitation and design trends. The modern bathroom developed alongside outbreaks of tuberculosis, cholera and influenza; its standard fixtures, wallcoverings, floorings, and finishes were implemented, in part, to promote health and hygiene in the home at a time of widespread public health concerns.

One of the biggest questions to be answered is how many are asymptomatic. Until widespread testing is taking place, it is so much guesswork.

https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/covid-19-what-proportion-are-asymptomatic/

What did we learn (see the table for the analysis)

  • That between 5% and 80% of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 may be asymptomatic
  • That symptom-based screening will miss cases, perhaps a lot of them
  • That some asymptomatic cases will become symptomatic over the next week (sometimes known as “pre-symptomatics”)
  • That children and young adults can be asymptomatic
We also learnt that there is not a single reliable study to determine the number of asymptotics. It is likely we will only learn the true extent once population based antibody testing is undertaken.

100% on Day 1.

After that you roll the dice.
