I think that Bruck Cockburn's If I Had a Rocket Launcher could be construed as a protest song.
It's actually not one of my favorite songs of his, but it is a good one, it got more airplay in the US than almost any of his music, and this does give me an excuse to post a Bruce Cockburn song -- so there's that.
