I fully support the 'no Politics' rule, ASR is a better place for it. At the same time, I feel an increasing need for protest songs and satirical songs to put a voice to my feelings of anger and bafflement ... you may be feeling the same sort of thing ...

There is a load of brilliant protest music out there, all genres, perhaps we can share (without comment).

Slightly less well known: John Martyn, "Glorious Fool" (1981, written for Reagan I believe, how times have changed)

beautiful rendition of a 80s classic:

I grew up in that decade, and my parents always tell me they were more carefree back then. Since the beginning of the year, I've been trying a news detox... just to block out the negativity.

For satire it's hard to beat Weird Al. (It probably doesn't hurt if, like me, you are about the same age as Weird Al and grew-up with the same music.)

I enjoy a FEW "political protest" songs, especially if they align with "my side" :D. But I'll just share this:
John Rich, Shut up About Politics

Amazing how true the lyrics are 60 years later

The best protest songs soon become part of the folk tradition, being reworked and reimagined through the ages. This one upped the energy and insistence of the original within months of its release. Some of the most important Scottish folk music ever recorded ...

Elvis Costello and the Attractions' recording of Goon Squad from the album entitled Armed Forces.

[Chorus]

Goon Squad

They've come to look you over and giving you the eye

Goon Squad

They want you to come out to play, you better say goodbye
