NiceHCK Octave dongle DAC

@SlowLife - Any idea what FW version is running on this device? Thanks.
You must select Octave under [Sound, video and game controllers].

@SlowLife - I found the firmware version and I am a few builds back from the current release. Two questions, can the firmware upload be initiated from a Windows PC? Where can I download the firmware? Thanks for the assist.

Just go to their website and search for downloads?

Currently, the FW update is only available on Windows PCs.

Hello!
Does anyone know the measurements of the NiceHCK Octave?
I read a review on the Headfi forum from October which stated that "something strange happened when testing the balanced output: it seems that the Octave demands a lot of current for this output. With certain DAPs, or even when connected to a PC, it couldn't reach a high voltage because the device seemed to be blocked." Indeed, the maximum voltage he measured at the balanced port was only 2.655 Vrms at 33 ohms, reaching a power of 210 mW and 80 mA. Has that been fixed by a firmware update?

No firmware update is ever going to fix Head-Fi reviews… :p

I believe the review you’re referring to is from “cqtek”. They speculate about high current demand but did not provide corresponding measurements. The objection to manufacturer power specs simply omits distortion considerations, etc.
